The Bar Mitzva of Adam Jaffe
of Atlanta will take place at
8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at
Ahavath Achim Synagogue.
A congregation kiddush will
follow.
Adam is the son of Sherry
Jaffe of Atlanta and Alan
Jaffe of Birmingham. He is
the grandson of Martin Hersh-
berg of Atlanta and the late
Helena Hershberg, and the
late Lillian and Morris Jaffe
of Birmingham.
The Bat Mitzva of Danielle
Berger of Dun woody will take
place at 10 a.m. Saturday,
Nov. 1, at Temple Emanu-El.
A congregational kiddush will
follow.
Danielle is the daughter of
Rhea and Bill Berger. She is
the granddaughter of Sara and
Irving from of Tamarac, Fla.,
and Freda and Julie Berger of
Rochester, N.Y. She is the
great-granddaughter of Betty
Katz of North Miami Beach.
Danielle will be sharing her
Bat Mitzva with Lea Koifman
of the Soviet Union.

Goldberg of Atlanta will take
place at 10:15 a.m. Saturday,
Nov. 1, at The Temple. A
congregational kiddush will

The Bar Mitzva of Jarret
Raab of Tucker will take place
at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1,
at Congregation Beth Shalom.

Jarret is the son of Alvan
and Beverly Raab. He is the
grandson of Betty and David
Raab of Columbus, and Sybil
and Louis Green of Sarasota,
Fla.

Craine of Marietta will take
place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday,
Nov. 1, at Etz Chaim Syn
agogue. A congregational kid
dush will follow.
Ari is the son of Sandra and
Lewis Craine. He is the grand
son of Bela Soloway of Fort
Lauderdale, FJa., and the late
Saul Soloway, and the late
Max and Mollie Craine of
West Bloomfield, Mich.
Ari is twinning with Artur
Filkeltein of the Ukraine,
U.S.S.R.

Atlanta ophthalmologist Dr.
Joseph Citron recently attended
the opening of the Mayo Clinic
in Jacksonville, Fla.
The new location is the first of
several branch clinic facilities
planned by the world-famous
Minnesota-based Mayo Clinic.
Citron worked at the clinic for
four years. During his last year
there, he was chief resident of the
ophthalmology section.

Luis Alberto Monge, former
president of Costa Rica, Per
Ahlmark, former deputy prime
minister of Sweden, and Rabbi
Eliahu Essas, Soviet refusnik
now living in Israel, have been
named the recipients of the 1986
$100,000 Defender of Jerusalem
Award. The annual prize honors
those who have stood up in de
fense of the rights of Jewish
people.

The Atlanta Women’s Di
vision of State of Israel Bonds
will host a reception for Roberta
Peters at 9:30 a.m. Thursday,
Oct. 30 at the home of Barbara
and Sanford Orkin.
Miss Peters, one of the great
Metropolitan Opera stars, is the
national chairman of the Israel
Bonds Golda Meir Club. The
reception will honor Miss Peters,
who has over the years given so
much on behalf of the State of
Israel and especially to the Israel
Bonds program.
Miriam Strickman Levitas is
chairman of the Women’s Divi
sion.

Edgar Bronfman
Edgar Bronfman, president of
the World Jewish Congress, has
received the Justice Louis D.
Brandeis Award at the national
convention of the Zionist Organ
ization of America.
Louis S. Belinfante, DDS, of
Atlanta, was recently elected
president-elect of the American
Association of Oral and Maxil
lofacial Surgeons during the as
sociation's 68th annual meeting
in New Orleans.
Prior to his election, Belin
fante served seven years on the
association’s board of trustees
and one year as vice president.
He will assume the presidency in
September 1987.
Belinfante is chief of the sec
tion on oral and maxillofacial
surgery at Smyrna Hospital and
is in private practice in Atlanta.
He is a diplomate of the Ameri
can Board of Oral and Maxillo
facial Surgery and a fellow of the
International Association of Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgeons and
the American Dental Society of
Anesthesiology.

Dr. Alan Sunshine has been
selected by Atlanta Gastroen
terology Associates to special
ize in the diagnosis and treat
ment of digestive diseases and
surgery of the intestinal tract
at its West Paces Ferry and
Piedmont offices. He is a noted
authority on gastrointestinal
motor disorders and has pub
lished extensively in this area.
Sunshine received a master’s
degree in bioengineering and
physics at Georgia Institute of
Technology and Georgetown
University and attended med
ical school at Georgetown. He
served his internship and resi
dency at Temple University
followed by a National Insti
tute of Health Gastroenterol
ogy Fellowship at the Univer
sity of Pennsylvania.
He is married to the former
Betty Solnik, a speech pathol
ogist and audiologist. The have
two children, Marshall and
Justin, and are members of
Ahavath Achim Synagogue.
Sunshine is the son of Mrs.
Ann Sunshine Kaplan of At
lanta and the late Irving Sun
shine, and the stepson of Ted
Kaplan. He is the grandson of
the late Lily and Harry Sun
shine, the founder of Sunshine
Department Stores.
