Ivory Coast moves
its embassy in Israel
WASHINGTON Ihe Ivory
Coast moved its embassy from
Jerusalem to Tel Aviv Dec. 14
under severe Arab pressure
against its location in Israel’s
capital. The West African coun-
ii v reestablished diplomatic rela
tions with Israel in September
and its ambassador came to Jer
usalem. The two countries had
no formal relations for 13 years.
Departure of the Ivory Coast
leaves only two Central Ameri
can countries Costa Rica and
Honduras with embassies in
Icrusalem T he United States and
other countries do not recognize
Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
A dozen countries had embas
sies in Jerusalem but all left for
I el Aviv after Israel declared by
law that unified Jerusalem is
Israels capital. Subsequently
first Costa Rica then Honduras
and the Ivory Coast set up their
embassies in Jerusalem.
