Representing th* student body this
year arej Carolyn Crawford, president;
Herschelle Sullivan, r vice-president;
Lucille Fultz, secretary;Celestine Bray,
treasurer; Jacqueline Johnson, senior class
president; Marilyn Francis, senior class
representative; 1 Mary E* Bacoa,<, junior
class president; Wilma Nichols, junior
class representative; Mrs* Myra Taylor,
sophomore class president; Josqphine Jawk-
son, sophomore representative* These are
our leaders* They are not in the Student
Council for themselves—they are represen
ting the student body. In order that
they may be good leaders they will need
our continuous and honest support. If we
do not work co-operatively with them,any
efforts they may make will be in vain.
When we elected them as our leaders
we made them responsible for our decisions
They cannot do it alone;we must work along
with them. If they enact a measure which
the majority finds displeasing,it is^pto
us to inform them of our reaction. On the
other hand, if they need our • assistance
it would be an injustice not to come to
their aid*
The Editors of the Spelraan Spotlight
will be watching the Student Council this
year. Only time will tell what is:to b'e
written. We would like to write words of
praise*

"Spelman Spotlight*?"
FROM ACROSS THE CAMPUS...
BY GENEVA EVANS
Greetings, fellow toilers. I as glad
that all of us are back in the swing of
life at Spelman* Those of us who were
here last year have noticed esseiai Changes
on the campus scene, including the pre
sence of a new Dean of Women, Mrs. Irene
Asbury, a Spelman graduate; more student
participation in the student - governor
association; and more an ' the prosaic
side, but appreciated none-the-less a new
steam table among other changes in the
dining hall. The Spotlight has elso takenn
on a new look with hano able new editor}
June Hector. She has seme veryrpod Ideas
that should make the Spotlight differ frrx
the New York Times only ^.in the typo of
paper on which it is printed.
In case you haven’t guessed by now,
this column is supposed to be a relaxed
and casual one in which I can . say j'W-t
about what I like,# So with „ your p ■ -
mission, I'll do just that.
Recently, I dropped in on the try
outs for J. P. Cochran's new play. JJo,
I didn't have the gall to read for a
part, but I did sign up for a lc^dirgprw'
in the crewpainting. Anyway, to get
back to my original point, I dropped In
on the tryouts, and I found that the
"omest young faces'' that the movie mag
azines gush about were there in full
force. The "cool", dignified and soph-
istocatod seniors were represented as
vrore the "uncool", undignified., and un-
sophistocatcd freshmen, and all of the
groups between. Everybody seemed, to bo
putting oil of his faculties into the job
of getting all there was to get out of
the script. Christine Jaffers, a
Spelman senior, and Carlton ’ T olotto, a '
Morehouse senior, both with leading role:;
in A-M-S nrcductions behind them, were
intent upon doing their best. "J.P.", of
course was there, listening impassively,
refusing to allow his face to betray any
emotion that might indicate the fate of
the would-be actor or actress.
Since visiting the tryouts, I hav
learned that the play "Right You Are Tf
You Think You Arc" has been cast and that
Christina Jaffers and Carlton Molette
were given roles*
