WELCOME NEW
SISTERS
One Big Family
Welcome, Class 1970
We, the members of the
Junior Class, would like to wel
come you, our Little Sisters,
to our Spelman family. Speak
ing with two years of college
life behind us, we can tell you
that you’ll find your first year
at Spelman quite interesting.
The sisterhood at Spelman is
such a wonderful experience
that you’ll really be glad that
you have the opportunity to
be a part of it.
Getting adjusted might
prove to be a problem, but
don’t let it get you down. As
your Big Sisters, we’re going
to do all that we can to help
you. If you have problems or
questions, come to us, because
we know what it’s like to be
a Freshman and the past two
years have answered for us
many of the questions that
you’ll want answered.
This year, we would like to
make the Big Sister/Little Sis
ter Program better than ever.
With your interest and partici
pation, we can do it. So don’t
hesitate to call upon us when
ever you need us.

Dear Freshman,
Once again — welcome!
You’ve been busy this week,
I know — ridding yourself of
those first pangs of nostalgia;
taking the exam that will place
you in first or third year
French, getting to know your
roommate at least well enough
to find out if flowered curtains
and polka dot bed-spreads are
too way-out for her taste, all
the while being on the look
out for the fellow who will
share your leisure hours dur
ing the next two weeks? next
month? next year?
Yet, already the signs of
being busy are taking on
more seriousness. You’ll be
come more cognizant that an
important pendulum swings
between your academic life
and your social and cultural
life. So that this pendulum will
touch each part of your life
with the due amount of inten
sity, there must be working
timetable of effective activi
ties and programs designed for
you. This is why there is a
Spelman Student Government
Association.
The SSGA consists of cer
tain elected officers and the
student body. Each of these
two members has its duty. It
is for the SSGA officers to
foster a program that will
make for a well-rounded col
lege year. It’s the duty of the
student body to make known
to the officers its disappoint
ments and its hopes. Only
when these two parts work
together is progress made.
The SSGA office is room 7
Through the many years of
Spelman’s existence there has
been an intimate Big Family
relationship. A part of this
relationship has been evolved
around a society of sisters. The
Junior Class or the class of
1968 has welcomed the oppor
tunity to be a closer sister, as
well as a Big Sister, to you,
the Freshmen.
We were very happy to have
had the opportunity of intro
ducing ourselves during the
summer. We, the Big Sisters,
wish to extend an invitation to
you, our Freshmen Little Sis
ters, to call on us for any help
or advice needed in adjusting
to life at Spelman.
The strength of our school
depends greatly upon the
harmony or the relationship
among the girls at Spelman.
The Big Sister-Little Sister
idea has been quite successful
in the past at preserving this
relationship.
We, therefore, sincerely
hope that this relationship will
make your stay at Spelman a
fruitful one.
If there are any problems
about your Big Sister assign
ments contact us in Manley
201.
