SGA On The Move!
Editor’s Note
Dear Spelmanites,
Every year I can always tell when the end of a semester has
arrived. I can tell because everyone—Freshmen, Sophomores,
Juniors, and Seniors are walking around with a “I am pressed”
look on their faces. Now, more people, including myself, are
unintentionally falling asleep in class and thinking the days
or weeks are going by too slowly.
As we depart from the gates of Spelman for the holidays, let
us individually thank God for allowing us to finish another
semester and ask that he gives us strength to make it though
future semesters. Also, take a moment and assess the entire
semester. Assess your relationship with your teachers, books,
and your Spelman sisters. Where improvement is needed,
make and effort to execute successful relationships.
Kathleen and I would like to wish all a very joyous and safe
holiday season. We look forward to working with you next
semester beginning with our combined January/February 1988
issue.
Sincerely,
Reflections Update

sponding secretary of SSGA,
I have already begun to
examine and improve my role
as an informant to you, the
student body, but especially
to the commuter students.
During this semester, there
have been several adminis
trative obstacles that have
inhibited me from thor
oughly informing commuter
students of Student Govern
ment activities and informa
tion. Nonetheless, this has
since been corrected and
commuter students will
receive copies of the
Commuter Student News
letter beginning in January
’88. The newsletter will
consist of a calendar of events
scheduled by SSGA and also
additional pertinent in
formation.
I am optimistic that in
constituting these improve
ments, my role as corre
sponding secretary can be
executed sufficiently.

Good Luck to Stacey Jordan
by Kori Lyn Scurlock
Stacey Jordan spent this
semester here at Spelman on
exchange from Wheaton
College in Massachusetts.
She is a second year philos
ophy major who plans to
attend law school.
Wheaton is an all women’s
liberal arts college with an

tion of 12 hundred. Approxi
mately 27 of those students
are black.
As this semester comes to
an end, Stacey reflects on her
experiences.
She says that the transi
tion from an all white envi
ronment to an all black
environment was not difficult
at all for her. She remembers
feeling comfortable the
minute she arrived. Stacey
states that she does not sense
the competitiveness here
that she senses at Wheaton.
She explains, “Because it is
already established that we
are all here to accomplish the
same goals, there is no need
for us to compete with one
another.”
Stacey recalls her most
memorable experience, “I
will never forget the induc
tion into sisterhood because
it was the first time I no
longer felt like an outsider.”
What has impressed
Stacey most about Spelman
is the dedication and spirit of
the students.
She says that she has met
so many nice young ladies
with whom she has estab
lished life long friendships.
Stacey feels that this
semester here at Spelman
has given her a greater
appreciation for Black Insti
tutions in general. She now
understands why their
survival is crucial in
educating blacks.
When asked what she will
miss most about Spelman,
Stacey dismally replied,
“Everything.”
