Arrest of an Ai.i.eof.h Government
Defaulter.— 1 This morning detectives,
Elder and McCord arrested, in Broad
way, Todo, alias .1. F. Do l’Aro, who is
alleged to he a delimiter to the Russian
Government in an inimonse amount.—
Todo arrived in this city about a year
ago, traveling niidor the assumed name
of Do l’Are, and sp well did ho conceal
himself that no traco was obtained
of 1dm until a lew days ago. A por
trait of tlie-fugitive was placed in the
hands of the dctcetiro police, and an
accurate description given of his person,
and during last week the police, were
notified that a broker, doing business in
Wall street, had been engaged with a
person answering the description of the
fugitive. Onco on his track tho detec-
lived followed him up, and this morn

fore a jeweller's window in Broadway.—
On searching his room at his hotel
$5,000 worth of Russian bank notes
wore found. Tho money was taken to

reward of $25,000 was otiered for tho ar

1 limits of tho wide spread republic. The
' great fact \vhicli. stands out boforo the
country is, that a powerful sectional or
ganization threatens to acquire control
»f the government; a party which, ig
noring every other question, rallies its
followers to a crusade against slavery ;
a party which, taking its candidates for
tho highest offices in the republic from
one section of tho Union, proclaims its
purpose to bring the institutions of tho
other section under the ban of the gov

Snob a party ought not to be tolerated,
ami against it every man whose patriot

range himself in the order of battle, no

Every truo man, with-all his manhood,
should take his place under that great
standard which the friends of the Union
have set up against that powerful party
which threatens to tread the con-ditti-
tion under foot, and to involve tho coun
try in widespread ruin. Nothing can
save the country from great troubles but
the upiising of that love of the Union
which lies deep in the popular heart.—

IV M., arrived at Halifax on the 18th,
in oxactly forty-eight hours, and sailed
from thenco nt nine o’clock A. M.” on
the 19th. Allowing five hours for differ

in nine days and four mid a half hours,
without any allowance being mado for
tho time consumed in going in and out

tho shortest passage vet mado between
