THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 11.
Good Plowing—Brinly Ahead.—The
plow trial, which took place on Friday, waa
one of the most extensive exhibitions that
evei took plaoe in . North Qeogpa. ; The. to try again. Theitnir ia-new, offici
contest lasted for two days, and some of the J *“
best plows in the country was on trial. T.
E. C Brinley, of Louisville, Ky., was on
the ground takings deep interest in the tri-
ai.-" We noticed some lS or 20 of’.the: dif- ^
' ferent paterns manufactured by him, among andonly home made gents, -shawl,- prei
Sardis, Miss:; Little Rock, Arkansas, and
’Brownsville,’Tennessee, last week.
We learh’CBSt' Brinly received the pre- :
inium on his two horse and one horse uni
versal plows, which attracted considerable
attention with the farmers. Brinly starts
for Macon, where we wish him great suo-
cess.
Fitoh—The irrepressible and everlast
ing—the eternal, the immortal Fitch; has
• been in town. We have seen him and en
joyed him. He isa trump. Long iife to
Personal.—Dr. Bard, of the Era, has
been with us for some days past. He is a
polished and agreeable companion, and
barring his politic?, we heartily like him.-
Killy Blalock has been “running with the
town boys” in Rome, and the town boys
• like him. Come again, Billy.
Loss »Y. PlBE.—We exceedingly regret
to learn that the residence of Col. W. W.
Woods, of this county, with almost its en
tire contents, was destroyed by fire last
Saturday, when the family, except three
small children, were at the Fair. The en
tire loss is estimated at four thousand dol
lars.’ No Insurance? Col. W. is one of our
best citizens, and the entire community
deeply sympathize with him in his loss.
, Gorilla.—There was a regular gorilla
at tho -Fair, and he was the ngliest ousto.
■ rner that w.ehave ever seen. Very much
like a regular African negro. He vrai
genuine gorilla, we understand.
Age.cultural Implements.—Messrs.
Rubio & Williford, of Chattanooga, took
the premium for the best exhibition of agri
cultural implements. Their stock was large
and fine. They are enterprising gentle-
mcn. ....
Rolling Mill -in Operation.—r-The
Rolling Mill commenced regular work en
Monday morning. The present capacity of
tbeddill enables it to roll ten tons per day.
-It will soon be eplargpd.
At the Virginia State Fair the single
horse trotting was taken by 237 time, best

A daily paper has beon established in
Rome Ga-, by. Col. Shaoklin formerly of
Talladega Home. and Capt. Mosley, late of
the j$isnig Star at Oxford. The Cojnmer-
c/V.speak's well of $.l) e enterprise, but the
Cmirier with characteristic narrow bearted-
nesa; can not even wish them success.— Gun-
terseille Post.
A malicious, ill-natured and unjust fling-,—
perpetrated by an eminently stupid ass—
cause, natural bias in the wrong direc-
tiou—effect, contempt created for the slan
der and disgust for the author.
We have no patience with a uian who
would thus leave hisown business and want
only lay such charges at- the door of an out
sider. Capt. Mosley and Col. -Shanklin
perfectly understand and appreciate our
feellings, and they received no more court
eous or kind welcome from any hands than
.they d d from ours. At the time that the
only notice that we have ever officially made
of the daily, was written the wiiter had just
heard certain repo: ts which caused proba
bly a coldness in t}ie greeting —but as far
as substantial and warm courtesy is concern
ed do one pan say that the Courier Jtae been
■backward.
The Courier while enjoying the confidence
and patronage of this whole section k charg
ed by the man who does the stupid for the
Guutersville Post with narrow haartedness
and discourtesy. We will wager that not an
other paper in the State would endorse the
charge- We would advise the pestiverous
-littlebug who with a bad energy has buzz
ed the slander, to crawl into Jiis rotten ol'
post and stay there or he will get stepped
on and crushed.

.' incs Again— Tne Infamous Ames.
A toes, the Radical satrap in Mississippi,
declared his intention to carry the electiop
in that State for the Radicals with his.bay-
•onets. He subsequently denied making
the threat. The Vicksburg Times of the
i’fftk says:
“The State Executive Committee of the
National ITnior Republican part v, forward-
ed yesterday to the Secretary of War. affi
davits and official communications sub
stantiating the statement made in the dis
patch sent ty Hon. : A C. Fisk, its chair
man, to the i’r.e/ident.on t)ie 8th inst. that
Gen! Ames did not intend to hold a feu-
election ” ■
‘ It thus transpires’ brother Kevins that
we were" nght, when we charged . Ames
with lately tbrgatewngs to carry the State
of Mississippi even if’ force was necessary
to do it- Here we have Ms awn party
spewiifog the cowardly dog with disgust
from their midst It is hard to say anything
bad about these military 1 minions of tyran
ny, that-will not get substantiation.
Again then we dub the Mississippi satrap
