The Vesuvius.
The dynamite cruiser Veauvlus has i
been in Chat lesion harbor on several
occasions. But all those visits were |
"before the last war." and now there
an a ided interest taken in the long. !
loc vessel, with tbe three queer look- j
ipg tubes showing up at the boa'. The,
work of this vessel during the siege cfj
Santiago has caused it to be watched >
and eon'men led on by the power* of
the world, and it is said that some otb-1
er governmen's contemplate bnilding
boats as near- like tt as po«s'h!e. The
Vesuvius is under command of Lt,
Com. J, E. Pillsbury. and is on her
wa" to Tompkinsville.
The auxiliary cruiser Sylvia, former
ly a Savannah tow boat, is bound for
Norfolk, and stopped in at Charleston
for coal.
It is in charge of Lt. J. H. Peters.
The torpedo boat Rodgers. Lt. J. L.
Payne, en route for Norfolk. !s also in
for coal.
Messrs. William Johnson & Co. yes
terday coaled the Sylvia, and todav
will give the Vesuvius and the Rodg
ers a supply of Pocahontas. It Is
probable that all (he vessels except the
Bancroft will sail north today.
