Spt necr, aged 83. one of the oldest mill
ers in Kentucky, died last night at Ft.
Spring seven miles east of here. The
famous flour mill he has operated on
Elkhorn Creek for over fifty years, was
built, by his grandfather, Carlo Spen :
cer« a native of Holland, in 1797. Ho
was a orevoted friend of Henry Clay,
and when Clay was defeated for the
Presidency by Polk, In 1844, Spencer
took an oath he would never cast an
other vote as long as he lived. Dur
ing the fifty-four years before his
death ho never violated that oath.
