I lly, Mr. Masow MosEtBY. —On Satur
day morning lad, as Mr. Moseley was ta
king a (hurt hunting excursion round his
neighbourhood, he discovered a negro fellow
endeavouring to hide himfdf from his view
which induced him to fufpeft he was a
runaway ; on approaching and interrogating
the fellow, his suspicions were ftrengthefled;
and for the fafe securing of the fellow, he
ordered his tofltip off his cloathes, to dis
cover if he had any offenfive weapon in his
pofleflion. The fellow denied having any,
nor was any to be difeoveted about rum. He
was then directed to walk on to Mr, Mofe
lcy*s houfo, about one mile diltant, the ce
ceafed following him—unfortunately the
latter inadvertently approached too near to
the Negro, when he suddenly turned, do.

tal stab in the belly with a knife, which he
had fomewiere concealed when previously ex.

him the rifle loaded with two balls.—The

and about three hours after the accident,

The Negro Fellow who committed this
murder, was deferibed by the deceased, to

In halts I communicate to you «he fol
lowing distressing news. On the arrival of
Mr. John Gromet and family, with
merchandize from Savannah on Sunday, on
the Monday following they were employed
in opening them. On Tucfday evening a
hogflicad of Brandy took fire from a candle,
fcor in what manner it is difficult to fay;
the fire communicated from that hogfliead to
others, and in a small time the houle was
in flames, by which Mr. Gromet was so
much burnt, that he died on Wcdnefday
morning, and Mrs. Gromet lies in great
agony, and it is feared {he cannot survive
long. _ ,

sumed in large quantities, with every arti.

small things excepted ; and notwithflanding
the difiance at which the buildings are pla.
