We are at all times glad to announce the
resumption of business by the old merchants
of Savannah. Among the many who have
lately resumed business none is more welcome
than Mr. John L. Villalonga, of the late firm
Boston i Villalonga. Mr. \illalonga an
nounces that he ha* again commenced basi
nets as a cotton factor, forwarding and com
mission merchant, at 94 Bay street, and his
card will be found in another column. Mr.
Villalonga has long been known as a high-
toned gentleman and a merchant of strict bus
iness integrity, touch men are the foundation
of society, and as business men give a charac
ter and standing to the mercantile community
in which they live. We bespeak for Mr. Vil-
hlonga a largo share of the patronage hereto-
ore extended to the late firm.

The Weather.
The high wind which prevailed on Monday,
stili continued yesterday during the day, but
with a clear sky. The wind shifted to the
X tihwest during the day. The clouds of
du-t had not abated as one’s eyes could bear
witness. We have heard of no marine disas
ters along our coast as yet. We learn from a
i!earner arrived yesterday evening, that there
wr.- a heavy gale of wind blowing outside
from the North during the day, with very
heavv cross seas. S

..bend and discriminating public.

the public, I am happy to verify the old adage, that,
“It’s an ill wind that blows nobody^food,"-and conse
quently, congratulate you that your well-known sales
have again demonstrated their superior fire-proof
qualities in an ordeal of unusual severity.
The safe you made for me some time ago was inihe

the building, and in the hottest of the fire.
After twenty-four hours of trial it was fonnd among
the debris, and on opening it this day has yielded np
its contents In very good order-books, papers, poli
