Arrival of the Hunter.
The steamship Hunter, Cafit, Rogers, from
New York, arrived at this port yesterday after
noon. We are indebted to the obliging purser
for New York papers of Thursday last,
While in the river, and turning to reach her
dock, the Hunter ran into the steamship
lievboseett, lying at the wharf, causing some
little Hauiage to the rail of that vessel, and
aho to her wheel-house. The Hunter lost a
portion of her bowsprit and had some of her
fancy work slightly damaged. A strong tide,
and the wind which was blowing fresh at the
time, was the cause of the collision.
News and Periodical Depot.
We are indebted to Estiil’s popular estab

firstnumber of “The Boudoir,” a ladies’ news
paper. got up in fine style and intended for the

BURNING OF THE MUSEUM
LETTER FROM. MR. BARNTJM.
NgW YORK, July 14, 1965.
Messrs• Herring C f o. .*
Gentlemen—Though the destruction of the * mcri-
can Museum h;is proved a serious low to myself and
the public, I am happy to verify the old adage, that,
“It’s an ill wind that Wows nobody good," and conse
quently, congratulate you that your well-known safes
have again demonstrated their superior fire-proof
qualities in an ordeal of unusual severity.
lie safe you made for me some time ago was in the
office of the Museum, on the second floor, back part of
the building, and in the hottest of the fire.
After twenty-four hours of trial it was found among
the debris, and on opening it this day has yielded up
its contents iu very good order-books, papers, poli
cies of insurance, bank bills, all in conditioujfor imme
diate use, and a noble commentary on the trustworthy
ness of Herriog’a Fire-Proof Safes.
Truly yours,
T. T. BARN CM.
