pj.mc ihftni not dead—A# Aithiol whom
Green earth cloeed lately o'orj
Nor search within the silent tomb
Sol those who “die no more.**
The cold earth hide* them from onr lore.
But not from Him who pleads above-
They passed, as all most pass, the deep,
Dread portals of the grave;
But not in dull decay they sleep
Whom Jesus died to save;
To mortal eye their path is dim,
But ’tis enough they rest in Him.
We saw the momentary cloud,
The pale eclipse of mind,
Fredi earthly sight that came to shroud
The deathless ray behind j
A moment more,’ the shade is gone,
The sun, the spirit, burneth on.
> Ty:. ill il. i, ' * ^
To die 1 ’tis but to pass, all free,
From death’s dominion here,
To burst the bends of earth and flee
From every mortal fear;
To plunge Withintbe gulf untried,
Aud stand beyon^t glorified.
Tbou weap’at—perchance they weep for thee,
if heavenly tear can flow,
To think of all the ills that be
In this sad world below,
Oh 1 not for all ite elimea contain
Would they return to earth again.
Yet weep, for earth's a vale of care,
And thOM #ho mourn ire blest,
If He who hean the mourner’s prayer
Send comfort to the breast;
If hallowed -Hppe break through the gloom,
Earth hath no-teacher like the tomb.

New York Gol« Market.
New Yohk, Not. 28.
Tbe supply of money was a little more abun
dant in proportion to the demand than yesterday,
and although the general rate for call loans was
seven per cent exceptions at six were not uncom
mon. This, considered in cenrihction with the
unusually large balance of #80,762 968 in the Sub-
Treasury, ia highly favorable to prolonged mone
tary ease at this, centre. The redemption of the
five ^r cent notes on end after Friday next will
add not far from twenty millions to the motive
currency, ana the West and South being largely
indebted to Nqw York the drain of currency
thence towards this point is likely-to continue
for a considerable time longer. Exchange on this
city, both at Nejr Orleans and Chicago, is scarce
and firm, the buying rates being at or above par.
Under this condition of the,money market.there
fore, strong inducements will be presented to op
erators for a rise on the Stock Exchange, even in
the face of any recommendations which Mr.
McCulloch may make in his report in favor of
contraction, with a view to tbe oitimate resump
tion ot specie payments; for he, as a practical
man, must know that specie payments for eight
