An individual waa charged with disorderly conduct
in a house in Houston street. Thscpolioeiaau trstiflsd
that he had been sent for to arrest the accused and did
so, but he did not see him commit any disorder. Tbs
proprietreaa of the house testified that the defendant
and another person came into her house and ke flour
ished a small knife and threatened to “clear out the
Yankees" if-there were any in the house. She asked
him to .keep quiet, but he refusing to do so she was
compelled to send to the barracks for a policeman.
She said he did not do any damage, but t ireatened to
Upon being asked by the Mayor what he had to say,
he responded “nothing." Mayor Andsraon then flaed
him ten dollars.
Jno. Edwards, who was before the Mayor on Satur
day morning, was yesterday charged with vagraAcy
The policeman testified that he found him asleep On a
step and started him away, and that in a very short
time afterwards he found him near the place.
He asked him what he was doing there, when the
vagrant contended that he had a right to sleep in the
stioet if he wished to. The policeman dlsputedthls
and took him off to the barracks. Upon b<H„g wejf .
tioued. Edwards stated that he had been working
on the Gulf Railroad and waa discharged, and having
no pluce to stay, thought he might stop in ths street.
The Mayor fined him five dollars
A policeman was charged with refusing to obey the
Lieutenant of the Police and absenting from
duty. He stated that he had been afflicted with a nerv
ous affection and waa unlit for duty and wanted to re
sign. The Lieutenant told him he must give thirty
days notice of his resignation, and he said hewonld
forfeit his month’s pey but would not go onstreet
duty. Counsel appeared for him end the Mayor re
marked it was rather an unusual proceeding fir a po
liceman to appear by counsel, but he would bear what
the gentleman had to say: who then contetded that
hii client certainly had a right to resign.andnahe
was not able to attend to police Jutyhisretasal to do
so should not subject him to am other peialty than
the forfeiture of Ilia month's toy. The Mayor re-
marked that the policeman was b^md to atend to his
duties until his resignation was accepted bythe Mayor
He then sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of
twenty dollars and be dismissed fron ths race.
