freediuctl'a Court.
In the Freedmen's Court on Baturday last, Hall Tty.
lor was charged with committing an assault and bat
tery on Moses Bcntly. After hearing the evidence.
Judge Stone remarked that it was established that tlic
defendant did assault the plaintiff, but that he (the
plaintiff) was to blame for carrying a dangerous wea
pon, and he would therefore order that defendant pay
a fine of *15 for committing the assault, and plaintiff
pay *10 for carrying weapons.
A white man was charged with committing an as
sault on a negro named Harrison. When summoned
by the Court he at first refused to obey the order, but
on Saturday he was brought into court and the Judge
being satisfied of the assault, fined him In the sum og
$16 for it, as well as *6 for contempt of court.
In the case of Wm. O'Connell vs. Cyrus Bristow, for
the recovery of house and rent, judgment was render
ed in favor of the plaintiff in the sum of *40 and costa,
aud the Court also ordered that the defendant pay *40
more within fifteen days or vacate the premises.
The Tbees.—We have been requested by a friend
to call the attention of the authorities to the fact that
many of the trees in our squares and streets are being
injured by that insidious parasite, the mistletoe,
and are also iu need of pruning. He suggests that
as our beau til ul shade trees are the admiration and
boast of the Forest City, stepa should be taken to pre
serve them. Now is the season, before they put on
their foliage to give them that attention which they
did not have in years past, when our time was occupied
in the erection of lines of earth-works aud trenches.
Mias Cameron’s Benefit.
The benefit of MUs Isadora Cameron, at St. An
drew's Hall, this evening, will not be forgotten by the
friend* of that estimable young lady and gifted actress.
The piece to be produced on the occasion is new to
moat of our theatre-goers and one of the most attrac
tive presented during the season. It is entitled "Ra
chel the Jewess," and Mias Cameron's personation of
the heroine is perhaps her most successful assumption
in this hue of characters, having been applauded by
high authorities in dramatic criticism.
Mr. Geo. Gray, the popular tenor, has kindly volun
teered for Miss Isadora and will sing, by request,
"Our Good Ship 8ails To-night."
