happy to have it in our power to pse»cut it to onr

“ Mr. Mathew* and Mr. Kemble had been din
ing together at Mr. Charles Kemble’s house. Mr.
John Keuibio had taken much wine, and when
the party broke up, Mr. Mathews determined to
accompany the tragodian to hit own door. Giv
ing him his arm, therefore, they proceeded slow
ly to Mr. Terable’t house in Great Rttssslt-stroet,
Bloomsbury. The tragedian was full of talk. and

with great formality, introducing bi*.n to the no

in vain that Mr. Mathews protested against fur

with it entered anetaonnons cat decorated with
a redl collar and a bell. The appearance of
his favorite cat called forth it* masters’* most
affectionate notice, and many relations of its ex-

Well, what a convenient thinpa Mail is, as the
old woman said, when she snuffed the candla with
her finguret and put the charred wick iuto the
snuffers. No one can imagine what a delight
there is, In geiting a le ter or paper from the |
North.
All the village school debating aociotie* hare I
determined long ago, that there is more pleasure
iu the anticipation of an object, tlnn in Clio pos-
tosslnn, hut we had never exactly realized the j
thing until we lived under Mr.lvkmdau.’s admin-1
i«tration of (lie Post Office Department. To I
give onr distant friends some idea of how much |
and bow often of late we have revelled iu the do
lights of anticipation, we will merely state that,
we anticipated having the pleasure of reading |
some Northern papers on the *20Ua of December.
We had the same pleasure on the 21st, and tome
of the same on the 24, and tome of tho tamo on
die fifth, and soino of the tamo on the 27th, (the |
old mails came up, but the one due foiled,) some
of the tame on th<i fifth, and tome of the tame
on yesterday. SEVEN FAILURES IN TEN |
DAYS. This reminds us of a country man who
was dining with Gen. Jacksox :—The old hero
asked him what he would be helped to 7 A little
