I have duly received your excellen
cy’s letter of the 24th inst. and given to
it all the attention its contents so jaftly
deserve. The information your excel
lency has the gnodr.efs to communicate
to me, concerning the forged cheek of

of the same nature having been former

tion of this and ns a proof of the fince
rt*y of my profdfions, that Don Joseph
de Cabr ra’s person should be secured
until his mj-fty’s will is known ; but he
is to be detained, according to my ideas,
and my directions and orders. With theft

ting yourofcxctlb ncy,that a comfortable
room may be prepared for htm in the
debtors apartment of this efiv, and that
the government of Punifylvania may cf
ford to me the means of coercion, if
such prove ncceffary, to fccu e the per
fen of the fared Don Joseph de Cabrera.
This arrangement will meet, I hope,
with your excellency's approbation, as
by it the date of Pennsylvania will be
convinced I do not pretend to fereen tbe
t’-anrgr. {Tor of its laws, and of those of
all the civilifcd societies ; but only to re
tain unimpaired those privileges fojuftly
attached to ti e persons under the fafe
guard of the laws of nations, and which
in this particular case it appears to be
my duty to defend.

After a short period, and at the request
of Mr. Cabrera himfelf, I delivered him
into your hands, having appeared desirous

about taking place, Mr. Cabrera, has
sent me anew request, accompanied by
several observations, to have him sent
to Spain to be tried by the laws of his
country. Although it is not my inten
tion to secede in all its extents to Mr.
Cabrera’s demand upon reconfidcration,
of this business, I think myftlf juflifisd
in reclaiming again from your excellency

keep in the fame dare of confinement un

I had the honor to receive your Ex
cellency’s letter of the 26th instant, and
have duly ccnfidercd your r quest, that
Mr. Joseph de Cabrera might be again
placed under the direftions of i is Catho
lic majtfty —Since be had submitted,
with your couf-nt, to tbe laws and
jurisdiction of the date of Pennsylvania,
a Grand jury of the city of Philadelphia
in the Mayof’s c, c-t, have verified, as far
as their power extends, the truth of the
acrufaiion againd him ; and, when hi;
trial was ready, lie pr?yed by his conn
fel, a pod pent mtnt until the twelfth day
of November next, which was granted.—
I perceive, and it is natural that he
whites to put evil day afar off.

Pennsylvania, and proved Life, appear, by
a sworn evidence of the firft teller of this
lad Bank, to be in the fame hand wri
