I c leaped her lair wee hand ;
And long we stood there, carelessly,
While o’er the darkening land
The sun set. and the fishing-boats
Were sailing from the strand.
It seems not many days ago-
Like yesterday—no more,

Upon the reeky shore;
Bui I was f»ur-and-twanty then,
And now I’m forty-four.
Tbs lily hand is thinner now,
Aod lo her sunny hair
I see some silrery lines, and on
Her brow some lines of care;
Bel, wrinkled brow, or silrer locks,

Tux Episcopal Church and thb National
Troubles.—The Now York “Churoh Journaf'
stat es that t hers will be no scbismatical division
of the Episcopal Church in consequence ol the
separation of the confederacy. In the organ
is it ion of that Church each States composes a
diocese, and each diocese, like each State, is
sovereign aud independent. Their national or
ganisation resembles the Federal organization
and, consequently, according lo the “Journ
al/* not only will tbe effects of 8tmte secession
upon tbe diooessn relations of the Church in
the seceded States be U ones recognized, but
where, as in tbe case of the Bishoprio of Ala
bsrna, the concurrence of tbe National Epis
copate may bo necessary to fill a vacancy, the
prwmpiext measures will be taken by tbe
Northern bishops to give the requisite sanction
to the election in Alabama, aod to every other
act neoessary for the entire independence of
ail the dioceses in the seceded States. This
is in perfect harmony with the noble attitude
of the Episcopal Church in the north from the
begioniog, which has always and everywhere
set its face at a flint against abolitionism, and
every other ism, and which is composed of a
body of clergy and laity which would have
done bouor to any age and any oat ion of the
Church.—Savannah Republican.
