Western Virginia—Gen. Wise’s Move
ments. *
A correspondent of the Richmond Dispatch,
writing from Kanawha on the 1st iust says :
General Wist is pursuing no equivocal pol
icy towards traitors. He has proclaimed, from
the moment he entered upon his mission, that
no snakes should lurk in tbe grass of the soil
which he came te defend, to sting him when
his baek is turned, or his bead is up and to
wards tbe enemy. Accordingly, many have
been arrested and subjected to examination as
to their loyalily and intentions. One of their
leaders from Clay county, apparently honest,
though misled and wofully ignorant, was ar
rested by Captain Caskio. General Wise ex
amined him, with a view to release or to hand
him over to the oivil authorities, as the evi
dence might dictate. He was a Baptist preach
er, a magistrate, and a member of a “Horae
Guard" disloyal to the State. He was releas
ed upon his voluntary statement and the evi
dence, but not until our leader had given him
a talk. Suoh a talk it has seldom been my
fortune to bear—never, except from the same
source. Tears stood in tbe old Tory’s eyes,
and mists of doubt and misapprehension as to
his duty seemed clearing up in his counten
ance. No eath, no promise was exacted from
him ; but, volunteering his profession of loy
alty in the future to Virginia and tbe Confed
erate States, he shook Gen. Wise warmly by
the hand, and left for his home in Clay. Sinoe
then ws have heard from him, the latest be-
log that his “Home Guard" intended to join
the State eervioe l Similar instances have oc
curred, and but one man has been retained
and handed over to tbs civil authorities to be
tried for treason, and ho was a native of Ohio,
(hough long a resident of the valley.
INVASION I
TO THE WAR!
A “GEORGIA LEGION”
I S BEING ORGANIZED. It is to consist of
four companies of Cavalry, of eighty men
each; of four companies o! Light Infantry, to
act with the Cavalry, as Voltigeurs; of two
oompanics of Heavy Infantry, and one of Ar
tillery.
The FULTON DRAGOONS have tendered
to form part of this Legion.
Thi* Legion ii expected to go into Ser
vice before the 15th of August,
but the companies to be selected IN A WEEK;
and to be thoroughly drilled before going into
service. The Fulton Dragoons want about
fifty able-bodied men, who can furnish good
horses, and a cheap uniform. Gov. Brown
will arm us—the Legion is to be tendered
through bins.
Here is offered a fine opportunity of going
into service, in a Regiment of novel organisa
tion, of pished companies. A distinguished
member of the Confederate Congress, from
Georgia, who gets up this Legion, will doubt-
loss be appointed Colonel; the other field offi
cers—Lieutenant Colonel, Major and Adjutant
are to be appointed by the President, from ex
perienced Army ofltaera.
We appeal to the patriotism of onr citiseos,
not only of Fulton, but of other counties, who
feel disposed to join the Fulton Dragoons, to
send in their names at once to ns, or to regie
ter their names at thestoreof Lieut. Williams.
Ws have hut one week to raise our number, to
ret in this Legion. All who want to go, in
form us at once. Will our friends who can't
go encourage this movement ?
B. C. YANCEY, OepL Fulton Dragoons.

CELEBRATED WATERING PLACE.
Thankful for the patronage heretofore ex

of the same for the firm, who will endeavor, at
all times, to provide for the table, bar, Ac., ev

Our cooks will be the most experienced that
the South can produce, together with an effi

be an excellent BRASS and STRING BAND
of superior Musicians attached to the Hotel.
The medioal virtues of theta many and va

to require an extensivs description. In addi
tion to the Red, White and Black Sulphur
Springs—many of them combined with Iron
and Magnesin—is an inexhauitable well of tha
purest Freestone.
Our accommodations nre very extensive.—
We have many pleasant cottages separate from
the main hotel, where families can be as quiet
and ratired aa in their own hornet.
