New York. -The Legislature of New
York has organized. Culbert, Dem., has
been elected Speaker of the House by the
Republicans, he agreeing to vote for a
Republican U. S. Senator. All the rest of
the officers elected were Republicans.
Thaller aid's correspondent, writing from
Albany, says that a difficulty between the
State and General Government is inevita>
ble; that the National Government has not
consulted Seymour in anything it has done:;
never having written to him, since his elec
tion, and points to the militia being called
out by Wool as confirmatory of what it says.
It remarks that the people are ripe for
revolution and are not to be kept down by
Jacobins, and. asks imploringly, where are
we drifting.
Seward’s Deposition still Demanded—
The correspondent of the Herald writes
from Washington that the radicals still
press the President to remove Seward, and
that on Saturday, a large number of them,
Wendell Phillips at their head, went for
ward and demanded of the President to
oust his premier.
New York City and the Administration.

thousand men. Latest adtices say that Mc-
Cleruand’s forces and Porter’s fleet have
reached Young’s Point, 20 miles above Vioks-
burg.
Mr. Saulsburv, of Delaware, denounoed
Lincoln as an.imbecile in the Yankee Senate.
He was several times called to order and fi
nally arroried,. but subsequently released.—
Next day Mr. Clark, of New Hamshire, offer
ed a resolution expelling Saulsbury. The
Tribune says the secesh Senator’s conduct was
disgraceful, he not apologizing, but was ob
served flourishing a challenge to Mr. Clark.
He threatened to kill Forney for remarks in
the Chronicle. ’Tis the opinion of greatest
and most cautious Senators, that he should be
expelled.
The Baltimore American of the 29th says
Pirate, Florida, Capt. Maffitt, has captured
and deetryed seven Yankee vessels off West
Indies.
The London Times comments favorably on
the apeeob of the Frenoh Emperor, and con
siders him thoroughly in earnest.
The editor of the Philadelphia Evening
Journal has bean arrested as a seeesh sympa
thizer.
Mr. Wall, of New Jersey, introduced into
the Yankee Senate a resolution of inqury into
tbe case of Col. Zarvona, who is reported gone
away; adopted. Gold dosed at 153. Exchage
109j. Cotton 80 cents.
SECOND DISPATCH.
The Tribune of the 29th says on Tuesday
Burnside tendered Linooln his resignation as
an officer of the United 8tutes Army. Linooln
declined to receive it, informing Burnside that
he had “other fish for him to fry.” Burn
side acquiesced, expressing his readiness to
aooept the smallest command in the army.—
Gen. Franklin thus doses his parting address-
to his corps: “In leaving my connection
with you, which you have made so dear, let
no one believe I willingly part with you in the
face of the enemy

Another Attack on Genesis Point.
Way’s Station, Feb. 8.10 a. m.—To
Brigadier General Mercer : A Yankee iron'
clad is anchored about two hundred yards
Irom the obstructions. Four other gunboats
and one mortar boat are opposite to, and two
miles from, the battery. •" The -firing is very
rapid.
aj. Gallic has just been killed, and one
of the men buried m the sand.
Our parapet in frfint of the.,8 inch guns is
entirely demolished, though the detachment
are still at tbeir guns. One of our 32-pound
ers is disabled—wheel broken.
We will hold the battery to the last extrem
ity, and blow her up before we will surren
der. * >
The attack is severe, but tbe men are in
fine spirits.
SECOND DISPATCH.
8.30 a. m—The fog deceived me ns to the
distance. Instead of being two hundred yards
from the obstructions, (he iron-clad is be
tween a quarter and half mile from them. .
(Signed) R. H. ANDERSON,
Colonel Commanding.
THIRD DISPATCH.
9.20 a. m.—The iron-olad has been struok
several times, and is slowly falling down the
river, though she is still within a thousand
yards of the battery.
The battery has received no farther dam
age.
The garrison is in fine spirits, and every
thing working beautifully.
Two more men have-been slightly wounded.
FOURTH DISPATCH.
1 p. m.—The garrison, after a most gallant
and determined resistance, have driven off.
the enemy.
The behavior of the officers and men was
noble.
The damage to the works can be repaired
in about two hours. '
Our loss is: Major Gallie killed, and seven
privates wounden—none seriously.
(Signed) R. H. ANDERSON,
Colonel Commanding.
FIFTH DISPATCH.
The Federal fleet has retired. The iron-
olad was injured.
Major Gallie’s body will ba. sent up to
night. He was wounded slightly in the faoe,
and then struck on the bead by a shell.
The News, commenting on the fight, says:
, Several gentlemen who went to Coffee Bluff,
where they had a good view of the battle, re
turned to the city in the afternoon. They
state that they arc confident that the iron-
olad turret boat was seriously disabled by our
fire, as she remained silent for a quarter of
an hoar before leaving her position, and did
not return the fire of the battery, which was
directed against her as she retired and joined
the fleet below.
Thus has ended the third attempt of the
enemy to capture our battery at Genesis
Point. Defeated in their attempt on Tuesday
last, thty no doubt returned to the attack
yesterday with all the means in their power,
and with ail the resolution they are oapable
of, doubtless relying on their superior num
bers and metal, and the invulnerability of
their iron-elads.
