For the Columbian Mufcum.
An Anjiver to the Old Maids Epistle, three
ted to the Bachelors oj the Village.
TO the Old Maids of Columbia, thefc lines are
addrefs’d,
By those Bachelors, who arc by them much op
prefs’d ;
.And to begin, dear maids,you advise us to marry,
And blame us for making such very long tarry.
You fay, heaven ordain’d man, to be tied to
women,
And to be chain’d by the ever blcfl bands of
hymen ;
It is true, and why in virgin prime, did you not
wed,
And to hymen’s altar, by your lover be led.
If this you had done, we Bachelors now
would he quiet,
And have none of your Epistles for our diet ;
But since it's not so, and you are now adverti
ng,
T¥ei nform you, we want no more of your ad
viling*
For whenever we incline, matrimony to try,
Each will have liberty of pleafinghis eye ;
Our choice as to age, is from bloom fifteen to
twenty,
Which age, we fliall find handsome lalles a
plenty.
To the above defeription, you can’t have any
claim,
And but youvfelves, for the disappointment
can blame :
Therefore, takeadvice, giveover your soliciting,
And let us not be troubled with your visiting.
But one point yet remains—Oh ! pray give
good attention,
And think what evil you may bring on the na
tion ;
If you should to Congrefs,fend your doleful tale,
And Rate therein you are, for public laic.
Friends probably there you might find, your
case to pity,
As Old Maids can be found, in country and city ;
And if they Ihould lay all, their all-wife-heads
together,
They might divide Congress, one against the
other,
W! iLh if it should happen, the expense to I
the nation ;
Would be double to all Old Maids population,
In endeavoring to people our far western States,
With all their Neds, [otharns, Molls, Nabs,
BciTes and Kates.
The /landing Committee (i/Rach e i.or s,
appointed to repel the unexampled soliciting oj Old
Maids.
