T O DELIA.
WtITTIN IN HIR ABSENCE
WHEN firll on me my Delia imil’d,
Wc loon were (loom’d to part ;
Then tear* my tedious time bei/uil’d,
And figh* confol’d my heart.
Avoiding pleafure’* wanton train,
I (ought the silent grove,
To mourn, a true and faithful i’wain, •
The absence of my love.
My constancy was well repaid,
For loon my longing arms
She bleis’d, O sweet! O hcav’nlv maid !
With all her angel charms.
How glided then the hours away?
One lcene of dear delight
Fill’d cv’ry minu.e of the day,
Each moment of the night.
. Now loft again to her fond eye,
I lolitudc revere,
And leek no plcafure—but a sigh,
No traufpoft-—but a tear.
