Nervous Fever, Typhus, Sltlntmtl Kutrid
or Spotted Fever.
As these fevcis are all of one churiu ter, differiag
nwiuly in degree, being all of a low grade, the [nils.’
sin ill and wiry, withs general great depression, there is
no practical use in separating them—at least so far as
my treatment is concerned, la these low fevers, w hen
fully developed, a little patience will tie required; still
comparatively little, ns they frequently ruu Weeks under
the couiuien treatment, while with this hnt a lew days
will bo necessary at longest to establish a permanent
ciaival—oence.
The treatment should be roninieueel—wliloli may
immediately follow any other without detriment—with
a teaspoonfnl of *• Fluid” every two hours, till the lnilso
boeoiues fuller or larger in volume, then to be continued

It will not force sleep like opiates, t ot it \yill sooth and

liisilthy; hence its use in so many cases.

pected to control all organic or local causes, which,
when such extit, must lie removed in order to effect a
permanent cure.
Vfhen such indications occur in any case, they should
bo appropriate means, nnd these sohiil.l ho given while
giving the ‘'Fluid,” uhd in erinnecti.in With it, when
occasion requires, as (hev will then more readily act,

If the bowels are costive, give u ciUhurtio (see auxili
aries) with the ffrst dose, or soon after, and should it
fail to operate in duo time, repeat tiie dose; if attended
with diarrhma, give something known to bo good for
that complaint, though if i'huucil by irritability, the
.“Fluid” will soon relieve that condition; if severe local
[lain or inlhimiuation, apply some stimulating liniment,
a ihustunlpiaster, a blister, fomentations of bitter herbs,
or, perhaps, cloths wet in cold water, to the part; if
violent pain in the head, apply cold water, ice water,
if convenient, or some cooling application, and bathe
tho feet in hot water; it’ tin) fever is very high, skin
dry and hot, with great suffering, sponge or bathe the
whole surface with water at an agreeable ttftiipenitnro;
“the ultimo wash,” vinegar and water or spirits and
water, oitlior will afford great relief aud aid tho medi

ble ; if tho,patient has been reduced or is much prostra
ted, give Tonics and stimulants, particularly in low

‘taring convalescence, whan the patiout has become re
duced: if them is umiseii ami vomiting, that must bo
allayed before any mediciue will remain on the stomach
to do any goad; for'ltd* purposo l generally give soaie
gentle emetic to cleanse tin) stomach; warm water, if

as you would under any other circumstances, giving the
“ Fluid” at tho same lime as directed, and success Will

Parties may feel at a loss to know what is meant by
cathartics, Ao., ns physicians me mnmlly particular
about what is used. 1 have found no such necessity
when using the Fluid, nnd to be fully understood by
