Gentlemen: Your note of the 15tli inst. has been
received, mying that you had heard that I had
been benefitted by tho use of Wood’s liair Restora

bud no objection to give it.
I award it to you cheerfully, bccHuae I think it

hair auburn, and inclined to <;url. pome live or
six years since it began to turn gray and tlio scalp
on the crown of my head to lose its sensibility and
dandruff to form upon it. Each of these dinugreea
bilitios increased witli time, andabeutfour months
since a fourth was added to them, by hair fulling
off tho top of my head sml threatening to make
me bald.
In this mi pleasant predicament, I was induced
to try Wood’s Hair Restorative, muiuly to arrest
tho falling off of my hair, for I had really no ex

its original color, except from dyes. I was, how

W. E. llagan, Troy, N. Y., —Dear Sir: Having
used your liair Coloring or Restorative, aud being
much pleased with it, I take pleasure in making
the following statement: From tho effects of a
very severe fit of sickness, when about 18 years of
age, my hair commenced turning grey, and so
continued to grow until it became perfectly white.,
being very harsh and course, bast summer I hud
readied my fifty-third year, when I was induced
by a friend to purchase two bottles of IleimstreePs
liair Restorative, prepared by you. I commenced
using it according to directions, and in a few days
was surprised to find that my hair frbm the roots
outward was turning back to its original color.
It so continued to grow until it was as truly
brown and glossy as it was in my youthful days,
and, is now /'idly restored to its original color.
MY LA SEAMAN.

me and was duly sworn, and says that the übove
statement is true, this 6th day of February, 1858.
JOEL F. POTTER, Justice of the Peace.
PITTSFORD, Vt., August 1, 1857.
I hereby certify that my hair having become
quite grey, I used Ileimstreot’s liair Restorative
(prepared by VV. E. Hagan, Troy, N. Y.,) for four
weeks, and my liair was in that time restored to
its original color. 1 can fully recommend the ar
ticle to be ail it claims.
WILLIAM KINGSLEY,
Pastor of the Baptist Church, Pittsford, Vt.
Mr. W. E.Haoan: I havo used Helmatreot’s Hair
Restorative for throe years, and find it to ho a most
excellent article. It not only restored the color ( f
my huir, giving it new life and strength, but it
cured myself and wife of a most obstinate eruption
upon the scalp, which nothing else, seemed to benefit.
I fully believe it to be the best article in use.
Yours, respectfully,
KNOWLTON HOWLAND.
Tho above uro but a few of the many letters of
recommendation which have been tendered to the
proprietors of Ueimstreet’s Hair Coloring or Re
storative. It lias been used by thousands of peo
ple, and it never fails to restore the color and
growth of the hair. This singular effect is not
produced as when dyes are used ; for its acts upon
the natural secretions of coloring matter at the
roots, and thus effects the change. The. color pro
dunit. is not. a counterfeit , but the natural shade of
youth. It does not color the akin.

Tlic Grrat Sriacll of Promise Case
-The Kemitt In tbe City.
The verdict in the breach of promise
case, on the whole, surprised the commu
nity. Most persous supposed that the
jury would be induced to givo tbe plain
iitl’ at least one ceut, uud also carry the
costs with it. The disposition to decide
tho case on general principles, and to
make the defeuduutpay something outhe
ground that lie was rich, and could stand
the verdict, it was believed would have
u weighty influence in the decision, but
tho result has been otherwise. All day
yesterday aud Sunday it was a current
topic of conversation in tho city, and
many speculations were indulged in con
cerning it. Probably several hundred
dollars changed hands iu the way of beta
lost and won, to say nothing of divers
bats, boots, gloves, etc , pending on tho
verdict.
The plaintiff, doubtless, last week, was
the favorite of betters, ut two to one on
the chance of getting a verdict, and some
bets were made that sho would get as
high as SIOO,OOO. Tho correspondent of
the Cincinnati Cortimcrciat telegraphed to
his paper that she would get that sum,
aud we believe that comparatively few
thought the jury would decide so quickly
as they did in Mr. Shaw’s favor.— St.

A Great Match Factory.
A manufactory of friction matches has
just been pul in operation at Cincinnati

cost of the building and machinery has
been $150,000, aud it is tbe most exten

made by an automatic machine, at tho
rate of 2,000 gross per day, and so cheap
that they can be shipped to Europe, where
this kind are all made by hand.
