Tlir Sugar Supply.
At a mooting of an association reocutly
held in Liverpool, it wus stated from offi
cial returns thn. prior to IH;H the aver
age export of sugar from Jamaica to En
gland was sixty seven thousand tons, nnd
now it hardly reached thirty thousand
ton* In Cuha the exports for the same
period, trom Havana and Matanzas only,
had increased from eighty two thou
sand to two hundred and forty thou
sand tons ; and from Hra7.il the exports
for the Bame period had augmented from
sixty three thousand to one hundred and
twenty thousand tons. Hayti, which
formerly exported a Inrgo quantity, now
exports'none, and imports a small quan
tity for its own consumption. The sup
ply from Mauritius and the East Indies
is slowly increasing.
A few days since several Virginia po
litician called at the White Ilouso to pay
their respects to the President, nnd, in
the course of the conversation, Mr. B.
related the following, with great glee:
“When Vice President Breckinridge visi
ted Kentucky, last December, for the
purpose of making his speech before the
Legislature, he met (Jen. Leslie Combs,
the old Clay leader of Hie Whig party,
of that State, and addressed him as fol
lows: ‘Gen. Combs, you hnvo performed
longer service, and more valuable service,
to your party, with less reward, than
any living man.’ To which (len. Combs
promptly replied : ‘Major Breckinridge,
you have performed shorter service, and
less service, for your party, with groatcr
reward, than any living man.’ Where
upon, they ‘liquored.’ ”

These symptoms, if allowed to goon (which this
Medicine invariably removes),soon follows Loss of
Power, Fatuity, and Epileptic Fits—in one of which
the patient may expire. Who can say that these
excesses are not frequently followod by those dire
ful diseases, Insanity and Consumption ? The re
cords of the Insane Asylums, and the melancholy
deaths by Consumption, bear ample witness to the
truth of these assertions. In Lunatic Asylums
the most melancholy exhibition appears. The
countenance is actually sodden aud quite destitute
—neither Mirth or Grief ever visits it. Should a
sound of the voice occur, it is rarely articulate.
“With woeful measures wan despair
Low sullen sounds his grief beguiled.”
Debility is most terrible! and has brought thou
