PILLS OF IRON.
AN Aperient and Stomachic pi tq aruuoi. of Iron
purified of Oxygeu and Carbon by combustion
in Hydrogen. Sanctioned by th* highest medical
authorities, both iu Europe and the United states
and prescribed iu their practice.
The experience ol thousand* daily proves that
no preparation of iron can be compared with it.
Impurities ol the blood, depression el vital energy,
paio and otherwise sickly complexioift indicate its
necessity in almost every conceivable case.
Inoxious in all maladies iu which it has been
tried, it has proved absolute!} curative iu each ol
the following complaint*, viz: *
In Debility, Nervous Affections, Emaciation,
Dyspepsia, Constipation, Diarrhoea, Dysentery,
Incipient Consumption, Scrofulous Tuberculosis.
Halt Rheum, Mismenetroation, Whites, Chloroeia,
Liver Complaint*, Chronic Headaches, Rheuma
tism, Intermittent Fever, Pimples cu the Face, Ac.
Iu case* of General Debility, whether the re
sult of acute disease, or of the continued diminu
tion of nervous and muscular energy from chronic
complaints, one trial oi this Restorative has proved
auccoßbful to an extent which no description nor
written attestation would render credible. Inva
lids ho long bed ridden as to have become forgotten
in their own neighborhood, have suddenly re-ap
peared in the busy world as if just r eturned from
protracted travel in a distant land. Somo very
signal instances of this kind are attested of female
sufferers, emaciated victims cf apparent maras
mus, sanguineous exhaustion, critical changes,
and that complication of nervous and dyspeptic
aversion to air and exercise, for which tho physi
cian has no name.
In Nervous Affections of all kinds, and for
reasons familiar to medical men, tho operation of
this preparation of iron must necos*ariiy be salu*
tary, for, unlike the old oxides, it is vigorously
tonic, without being exciting and overheating;
and gently, reguituiy aperient, eves iu the most
obstinate cases of costivenee*, without ever being
a gastric purgative, or inflicting a disagreeable
sensation.
It is this latter property, among othors, which
makes it so remarkably effectual and permanent a
remedy for l*iles , upon which it also appears to
exert a distinct and specific action, by dispersing
the kcal tendency which forms them.
Iu Dyspepsia, innumerable as are its causes, a
single box of these Chalybeate Pills ha* often
sufficed lor the most habitual cases, including the
attendant Costiveness.
In unchecked Diauriuea, even when advanced
to Dysentery, confirmed, emaciating, and appa
rently malignant, the effects have been equally
decisive and astonishing.
In tho local pains, los* of flesh and strength,
debilitating cough, and remittent hectic, which
generally indicate Incipient Consumption, this
remedy has allayed tho alarm of friends and phy
sicians, iu Boverol very gratifying and iatorostiug
instances.
In Scrofulous Tuberculosis, this medicated iron
hau had far more than tho good effect of the most
cautiously balanced preparations of iodino. with
out any of thoir well known liabilities.
The attention of females cannot be too confi
dently invited to thi3 remedy and restorative, in the
cases peculiarly affecting them.
In Rheumatism, both Chronic and Inflammato
ry—fn the latter, however, more decidedly—it lias
been invariably well reported, both as alleviating
pain and reducing the swellings and stiffness of
the joints and muscles.
In Intermittent Fevers, it must necessarily be
a great remedy and energotic restorative, and its
progress in tho new settlements of the West will
probably be one of high renown and usefulness.
No romody has ever been discovered in tho
whole history of medicine, which exerts such
prompt, happy, and fully restorative effects. Grod
appotite, complete digestion, rapid acquisition of
streugth, with an unusual disposition for active
ami cheerful exercise, immediately follow its use.
Put up in neat flat metal boxes containing fifty
pills, price 60 cents per box; for aalo by druggists
and dealers. Will bo sent free to any address on
receipt of the price. All letters, orders, etc.,
should be addressed to

We have put op and sold this article for over
ten years, and CAN BAY, IN CONFIDENCE AND
TRUTH of it, what we have never been able to
say of any other medicine—NEVEß HAS IT
FAILED, IN A SINGLE INSTANCE, TO EFFECT
A CURE, when timely used. Never did we know
an in stance of dissatisfaction by any one who
used it. On the contrary, all are delighted with
its operations, and speak in terms of commenda
tion of its magical effects and medical virtues
We speak in this matter “WHAT WE DO KNOW,”
after ten years’experience, AND PLEDGE OUR
REPUTATION FOR THE FULFILLMENT OF
WHAT WE lIEUK DECLARE. In almost every
instance where the infant is suffering from paiu
and exhaustion, relief will be found in fifteen
or twenty minutes alter the syrup is adminis
tered.
This valuable preparation is the prescription of
one of tho most EXPERIENCED and SKILLFUL
NURSES iu New England, and has been used
with NEVER FAILING SUCCESS in
THOUSANDS OF CASES.
It not only relieves the child from pain, but in
vigoratos the stomach and bowels, corrects acidi
ty, aud gives tone and energy to the whole sys

remediod, end in death. Wo believe in the BEST
and SUREST REMEDY IN THE WORLD, in all

any other cause. We would say to every mother
who has a child suffering from any of the son go
ing complaints—DO NOT LET YOUR PREJUDI

b< tween you and yonr suffering child, and the
relief that will bo SURE—yes, ABSOLUTELY

EDITORIAL CORRESPONDENCE •
Millet)qevu.i.e, Jan. 16.
The Convention assembled in tbe Rep
resentative Hall at II o’clock to day and
temporarily organized by calling Uon.
Henry L. Henning, of Columbus, to tbe
chair, and appointing Hood, of Rome,
Secretary.
The Convention then proceeded to elect
a President. The name of Hon. George
VV. Crawford, of Richmond, was put in
nomination by Mr. Anderson, of Chat
ham, and that of the Hon. A. H. Ste
phens, of Taliaferro, by Mr. Johnson, of
Clayton. They were put in nomination
as representing the two divisions in the
convention. Mr. Stephens promptly de
clined the nomination, and indicated a
desire to see the venerable and distin
guished gentleman from Riohmond elec
ted. A motion was then made to eleot
by acclamation. Some dissenting voices
were beard. On taking the chair, Gov.
Crawford made a few appropriate and
timely remarks, touching the matters the
body had been assembled to consider and
act on.
Tbe convention then went into tbe
election of Secretary. About four bal
lots were bad, when Albert 11. Lamar, of
Columbus, was elected. Tbe vote stood
on tbe last ballot, for Lamar 148, Dr.
Ilambleton, of tbe Atlanta Confederacy,
78, Ilyllier, of Floyd county, 85, scat
tering 2.
The posts of Door Keeper and Messen
ger were filled by the door keepers of the
Inst House and Senate.
The organization being complete, a
resolution was offered and adopted, to
appoint a committee to wait on Hon. J.
L. Orr, Commissioner from the Republio
of South Carolina, and Hon. John Gill
Shorter, Commissioner from the Repub
lio of Alabama, who were understood to
be in town, and invite them to seats in
the Convention, aud asoertain when it
would be their pleasure to address the
body. A committee of thlee was ap
pointed.
The Convention adjourned to meet at
10 o’clock tomorrow.
Nothing has yet transpired to indicate
positively tbe size of the majority. From
the best information I can get I set it
down at from thirty-five to forty. The
committee to take the subjeot matter of
the convention under consideration, will
be appointed to-morrow, and will proba
bly report the Ordinance of secession on
Friday.
What will be tbe course of tbe co-ope
ration delegates, I have not been able to
assertain. So far there seems to be no
organized conoert of action. It will not
surprise me if the greater portion vote
for the ordinance of seoeseion. Alexan
der 11. and Linton Stephens, did not ar
rive till this morning, a short time before
tbe meeting of the convention. This
looks very much like they have made up
their minds to act with the majority, and
will counsel harmony and tho unity of
tho State. The ordinance of secession
will, in my opinion, pass by at least sixty
majority, in despite of every effort that
can be made to rally tbe co-operationists
ngainst it. Georgia will go out Friday
or Saturday.
Toombs arrived here from Washington
last night. He contradicts the statement
of tbe difficulty between himself and Gen.
Scott. No such chaste epithet as lie or
d—d lie, was used. Neithordid anything
