L>R. MOTT’S
CHALYBEATE RESTORATIVE
PILLS OF IEOH.
AN Aperient and Stomachic pi ej aratiou el Iron
purified of Oxygen and Cm bou by combustion
iu Hydrogen. Sanctioned by tb highest medical
authorities, both in Europe and tho United States,
Mid prescribed in theil* practice.
The experience of thousands daily proves that
no preparation of iron cun be compared with it.
Impurities of the blood, depression es vitul energy,
pale and otherwise sickly complexions indicate its
necessity in almost every conceivable case.
I noxious in all maladies in which it has been
tried, it has proved absolutely curative iu each of
tho following complaints, viz:
In Debility, Nervous Affections, Emaciation,
Dyspepsia, Constipation, Diarrhoea, Dysentery,
Incipient Consumption, Scrofulous Tuberculosis.
Balt Rheum, Misiuenstruation, Whites, Chlorosis,
# Liver Complaints, Chionic 111 attaches, Rheuma
tism, Intermittent Fever, Dimples ou the Face, Ac.
In cases of General Debility, whether the re
sult of acute disease, or of tho continued diminu
tion of nervous and muscular euorgy from chronic
complaints, one trialot this Restorative has proved
successful to an extent which no description nor
written attestation would render credible. Inva
lids so long bod ridden as to have become forgotten
in their own neighborhood, have suddenly re-ap
peared in the busy world as if just returned from
protracted travel in a distant land. Some very
signal instances of this kind are attested of female
sufferers, emaciated victims of apparent maras
mus, .sanguineous exhaustion, critical changes,
and that complication of nervous and dyspeptic
aversion to air and exercise, for which the physi
cian has no name.
1b Nervous Affections of all kinds, and for
reasons familiar to mediuul men, the operation of
this preparation of iron must necessarily be salu
tary, for, unliko the old oxides, it is vigorously
tonic, without being exciting and overheating;
and gently, regulariy aperient, oven in the most
obstinate cases of costiveness, without evor being
a gastric purgative, or inflicting a disagreeable
sensation.
It is thi3 latter property, among ethers, which
makes it so remarkably effectual and permanent a
remedy for Piles, upon which it also appears to
exert a distinct and specific action, by dispersing
the Ideal tendency which forms them.
In Dyspepsia, innumerable as are its causes, a
single box of those Chalybeate Pills Las often
sufficed lor the most habitual cares, including the
attendant Costiveness.
In unchecked Diarrikea, even when advanced
to Dysentery, confirmed, emaciating, and appa
rently malignant, the effects have been equally
deoisive and astonishing.
In tho local pains, loss of lleah and strength,
debilitating cough, and remittent hectic, which
generally indicate Incipient Consumption, this
remedy has allayed tho alarm of friends and phy
sicians, in sovoral very gratifying and interesting
instances.
In Scrofulous Tuberculosis, this medicated iron
has had far more than the good effect of the most
cautiously balanced preparations of iodine, with
out any of their well known liabilities.
Tho attention of females cannot be too confi
dently invited to this remedy ana restorative, in the
cases peculiarly affecting them.
In Rheumatism, both Chronic and Inflammato
ry—fn the latter, however, more decidedly—it has
been invariably well reported, both as alleviating
pain and reducing the swellings and stiffness of
the joints and muscles.
In Intermittent Fevers, it must uecessarily be
a groat remedy and energetic restorative, ana its
progress in tho of the West will
probably be ono of high renown and usefulness.
Ne remedy has ever been discovered in the
whole history of medicine, which exerts such
prompt, happy, and fully restorative effects. G od
appetite, complete digestion, rapid acquisition of
strength, with an unusual disposition for active
and cheerful exercise, immediately follow its use.
Put np in neat fiat metal boxes containing fifty
pills, price 60 cents per box; for sale by druggists
and dealers. Will be scut free to any address on
receipt of the price All letters, orders, etc.,

Gknts.—Our firm having sold large quantities
of your Inimitable i lair Restorative, and hearing
It ho universally commended by many of our
patrons in the highest manner us to its “inimita
ble” qualities, I was induced to give it a trial,
having for some years been troubled with falling
of the hair, dryness of tho sculp, as well ts the
additional annoyance of many grey heirs—the
scalp being apparently diseased. After faithful
ly using one small bo tie of tho Restorative, and
finding its g od qualities apparent, I commenced
tho use of the reeond and mj hair is now in bet

has resumed its functions. I most cheerfully
commend your article as having ail the virtues
you claim for it. Iu addition to my own case, I

Cotton Convention.
We learn from the International Cottdn
Plant, published at Macon, that there will
be held at Atlanta, on the 13th of Feb
ruary, a convention of those interested
iu the development of the cotton spinning
industry of the South. The object of
the convention, as we understand it, is to
organize an association of all the friends
of this interest in order to secure concert
of action. This proposed concert of
action looks to a graud enterprise. -It is
nothing less than the introduction of
Southern Spun Cotton Yarns into the
markets of France, Spain, Belgium,
Switzerland, Germany and Russia.
Lieut. Hamilton’s Address.
J. K. Hamilton, late Lieuteuant of the
United States Navy, has addressed a let
ter through the Charleston Mercury to
the Southern Officers of the United Stales
Navy. Iu the event that the Forts ou
the Southern Coast held by Federal
troops are not surreudered peaceably,
then a formal declaration of war should
be made in a few weeks at most. He
urges them to strike for the honor of the
South wherever they are, aud bring their
ships into Southern waters with the
Southern flag nailed to the mast. If not
strong enough to do that, to come with
them. He very truly remarks that the
attempt at coercing a sovereign State
absolves them from their allegiance to
the United States Constitution.
Com v(. Cotton.
But a short three weeks since the
Black Republican journals were indulg
ing in gleeful remarks about the decline
in Southern cotton, and figuring up the
probable aggregate of loss on the entire
crop. Now, however, there is a differ
ent showing ; cotton is going up, while
corn is going down. Indeed, so nearly
valueless has it become, that it is now
used for fuel, as we learn from one of
these very Republican papers, from one
of which, the St. Louis Democrat, of the
lstiust., wo make the following extract:
It is a singular fact, that in certain por
tion of the Illinois prairies, corn is being
used as fuel, in lieu of coal, and is found
an excellent substitute. In the districts
referred to, corn is 12J cents per bushel,
and coal from 16 to 17 cents. Not only
is the difference in price in favor of corn,
but a bushel of it gives more heat th a
a bushel of coal.

Washigton, Jnn. 17, 11J o’clock.—lt
is rumored in Congressional circles, that
Buchanan expresses a readiness to recog
nize a de facto Government of three or
more States—hut not a single State.
Mr. Ilayne has modified his proposi
tion materially, at the instance of South
ern Senators: and the prospect is that
Anderson will remain and kind relations
lie restored, with the privilege to Ander
son of the Charleston markets.
Senator Davis addressed a letter to
Gov. Pickens, deprecating any course
calculated to precipitate a collision ; and
urging moderation and restoration of
friendly relations with Anderson.
A collision, he thinks, would be a great
misfortune, aDd to be avoided.
Buchanan will refuse to withdraw An
derson, but may comply with modified
views of Ilayne, when presented in wri
ting, which will probably be done to
morrow.

A largo body of troops aro reported to

A distinguished gentleman, ex-Gover
nor of an Atlantic State, was employed
for the defence on a trial for murder.—
The Governor found it necessary, in the
course of his speech, to comment with
Bomo severity on the testimony of a wit
ness for the prosecution. In the midst
of a most searching and logical sentence,
wherein ho was convincing the jury that
the wituess had sworn to more than the
truth, lie was interrupted by a juryman
—a tall, lank fellow, who, rising, addres
sed the Governor:
••See here, Mr. Lawyer, I don’t want
yer to go on that way abusing me ; l
won’t stand it; I’ll break up the oourt if
you do; I didn’t come to be abused.”
‘‘My dear sir,” replied the Governor,
in his politest manner, “I was alluding
to the witness, not to you; my remarks
were not intended to any of the juror*.”
“Well, then,” said thejuror, “jußt quit
a pinting your finger at me when you
tak that way.”
