reflecting the highest credit on the authorities and
agents, who designed and con Juried them, and the j
perfect order and reverence preserved throughout,

By private ad\ices to the Editors of this paper,
dated at Tampa on the 15th instant, we learn that
Billy Bntrlegsand the other Indians, with whom
negotiations have been pending, have all retired
to the goullivvard. Bowlegt has been desirous of
emigrating, and has given the most solemn
ranees that he would do so; but now be pretends
that he never gave bis consent, and say* that if
even ire would go, his people would not let him.
The Indians now express their unwillingness to
emigrate on any terms, but they are content to
be restricted within narrower limits in Florida-
such as the U. S. Government may prescribe, and
to surrender to the United States, for punishment,
any one who may be found North of such a line.
Such is at present the actual state of affairs io
Florida. Further negotiations may change tbe ex-
isting aspect of things, but it is hardly probable
that negotiations will far the present be resumed.
U* On Mr. Calhoun’s journey to Washington,
lest December, he was, among others, accompanied
by the Hon. Mr. Hilliard, hia excellent wife, and
his interesting and most promising son. si youth of
ed onions, Irish potatoes, tobacco and apples.—
There is, perhaps, no country in the world better
adapted to the production of almost all of the above
named article*, than this.
Add to these, the immense amonnt oPfine tim
ber and wood, trade in onions, apple*, Irish potatoes,
tobacco, hoop-poles, barrel staves, barrels, tubs and
wooden wares in general, which could be exported,
and would pay Irom these product* alone, leaving out
of view vvlial has heretofore been regarded by tbe
people as staples, in one year, and ought to be,
than is sent from those counties in a half dozen.—
Can money be made at this sort ot business ? you
enquire. Why noli We answer, the same trade
lias proved profitable every where else. In conn-
tries having not one lourtli the advantages ol this,
thriving pillage* have sprung up, and handsome
cities been built, where the niggardly soil had
scarcely generosity enough, in ita unimproved
state, to sprout pea*.
Mr. Editor, you have heard of rock-bound New
England; well, do our people know that a great
portion of what is now rich, flourishing, elegant
Naw England, was originally wide, bald rock plains,
like the rock fields around Stone Moantaiu—
those wide, gfody rocks through the county ol
Walton, the Cedar Rock in the county of Jackson,
and the poor ridges of all the above named coun
ties, covered with black jack and little green bam
boo briars. Had New England been such a coun
try as ours, blessed with such lauds, such waters,
and health; having a sweet, temperate climate,
like our own—a fond of sunshine and gladness—
every loot of it would now be blooming in all the
rich luxuriance of a garden.
And yet, to the contemplative traveler who
passes along the public highways, very little meets
the eye to interest the capitalist. The voluptuary
who roll* laxily along in his easy carnage, the bold
and striking profile of hill and dale, waterfall,
yawning cavern, mountain height, or gently sweep
ing lawns, may be interested in the poetic scope of
his vision, and be bade to linger for health amid
it* green dells, in-the witching time of summer.
