Steve Torrence, alias Twine, was arrested
W11 . last night by the detectives, on a charge of
GtS complicity in the murderous assault on Mr.
Alexander and the burning of bis house near
this city some weeks since. He confessed
that he was one of the party, which was regu
larly organized for plunder, and of which
Doc. Woods, who was recently captured after
a. desperate resistance, and ,being severely
wounded, was captain. Torrence states that
they left Mr. Alexander for dead, Woods
haring set fire to the house in severed places.

of them, were greatly surprised that certain
large volumes had suddenly and

disappeared. Greatly baffled'at tins str
disappearance, they made a general search for
the missing books, when, to ■ their utter
amazement, they discovered that in all seven
teen record books had been feloniously ab
stracted. A list of the contents of
naafeing record-books was given f to ! a’
known firm of detectives, but this led to no
fclue of the missing books, and a subsequent
inanity elicited the fact that the. detectives
had received a note front-one of the officers
of that Bureau to desist from further investi
gating the matter. This .-last manoeuvre-was
perpetrated a month or so ofter the books

Company shall have the exclusive right of way for the*
time for. which this franchise is granted over all the
streets in the city ot* Savannah, excepting such streets
as'are intersected by squares and those of less than’
forty-five feet in width., for; the purpose of connecting
their line of railway with the streets of the city by
horse railway cars or carriages, and for transportation
of passengers and. their baggage, and to construct a
street railroad and such branches switches, turnouts
. cars for the full term of ten years, and for such further
time as may be granted by the Legislature of Georgia.'
