[Translated from the German.]
LOUIS OFFON GOELICKE,
of Germany,
The Greatest of Human Benefactors
Citizens of North and South America,
To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. D.. of Germany,
[Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
, uevv and precious doctrine to the science of medi
ae —a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed
uy many of the faculty, (of which he is a valuable
member,) he proves to be as well founded in truth
as any doctrine of Holy Writ —a doctrine, upon the
verity of which arc suspended the lives of millions
of our race, and which he boldly challenges his op
posers to refute, viz: Consumption is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered state of Vis Vitae
(or Life Principle) of the human body; QQ" often
secretly lurking in the system for years before
there is the least complaint of the Lungs 41-0-—and
which may be as certainly, though net so quickly,
cured, as a common cold or s* simple headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine this, as it imparts an
important lesson to the apparently healthy of both
sexes, teaching them that this inskiious foe may
he an unobserved inmate of their “ clayey houses”
even while they imagine themselves secure from
Us attacks, teaching them that the great secret in the
ait of preserving health is to pluck out the disease
ajiten in the blade, and not wait till the full grown
ear.
This illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled
to vout unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude of a
world, for the invention of his matchless Sanative,
—whose healing fiat may justly claim for it such a
title, since it has so signally triumphed over our
great common enemy, jj 3 Consumption, both in
the first and last stages, —a medicine which has
thoroughly filled the vacuum in the Materia Med ica,
and thereby proved itself the (£/■ Conqueror of Phy
sic ians.rf) —a medicine, for which all mankind
will have abundant cause to bless the beneficent
'..and of a kind Providence, —a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pourtray
ed even by sjme of our clergy, in their pastoral
visits to tee sick chamber ; by which means they
often become the happy instruments oi changing de
sponding into hope, sickness into health, and sad
of friends into joyfulness

GOELICKE'S MATCHLESS SANATIVE,
A medicine of more value to man than the vast
mines of Austria, or even the united treasures of
our globe, —a medicine, which is obtained equally
from’the vegatable, animal and mineral kingdoms,
and thus possesses a three-fold power, —a medicine,
which, thouga designed as a remedy for consump
tion solely, is possessed of a mysterious influence
over many diseases of the human system, a medi
cine, whicli begins to be valued by physicians, who
are daily witnessing its astonishing cures of many
whom they had resigned to the grasp of the Insa
tiable Grave.

A certificate from three members of the Medical
Profession in Germany, in Europe.
We, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine
In Germany, are well aware that, oy our course,
we may forfeit the friendship of some of the facul
tv, but not of its benevolent members, who are un
influenced by selfish motives. '1 hough we shall
refrain from an expression of our opinion, either
of the soundness or unsoundness of Dr. Goelick s
new doctrine, we are happy to say that we deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known —for what our eyes behold and our ears
hear, we must believe. [ ,
We hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Offen
Goelick first came before the German public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be
a base impostor aa. d the prince of quacks. But, on
hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it
and for* it, we were induced, from motives of curi
•siiv merely, to make trial of its reputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeless patients; and
wc now deem it our bounden duty (even at the
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge
its elficacy in caring not only consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore
believed to be incurable. Our contempt tor the
discoverer of this medicine was at Once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results; and, as amends for our abuse of him, we
do frankly confess to the world, tnat we believe
him a philanthropist, who does honor to the profes
sion, and to our country, which gave him birth.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some
o our European hospitals, is a sullicient guaranty
that it performs all promises. It. needed not our
estimony, for wherever it is used it is its own best

COSBY’S DYSPEPTIC
A Late ami Valuable Discovery.
PERHAPS tuere is nothing mor’ calculated to
disgust me public eye than the innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This state
ol t he public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.—
Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, w hich we are con
fid cut will benefit our fellow men. This latter
consideration has prompted the author of these bit
ters to make them known. He knows they are high
ly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even
hix recollection was gone. By using these bitters
he has been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by the use of these bitters. This has been ihe case
with many oi his frb mis. Mr. Cosby in sending
forth this advertisement, addresses those who know
him. Ho has been for many years a resident of
Augusta at which place he can at any time b?

Radical Cure olTlenua or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
fIIHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
1 store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson &Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
uslly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee of the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines iu every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearothec
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee,”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, tire in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The foLowing is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our owu city.
“ All must admit of the radical cove of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly' the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Pcrsonsfrom a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from some
ble person, of their pecuniary disability - .
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every - variety of reducible rupture.

DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
docs not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty - , or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx

Noith has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting Ic
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuiu
than for one to offer meal from the com stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and iu honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
1 rofess to be, and will do for othcis what they
liave done for such as mav have u*ed them ; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it w - ill
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found io keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety - calomel has been given to children, and
how they - then wished for a substitute. It lias
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascertaintJ that .ney comamea alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in

PETERS VEGETABLE PILLS.
They do indeed restore the health of the body,
because they purify and invigorate the blood, and
llieii good effects are not counterbalanced by any
inconvenience ; being composed entirely of vegeta
bles, they do not expose those who use them to
danger, and their effects are as certain as they are
salutary; they are daily and safely administered to
infancy, youth, manhood and old age, and to wo
men in the most critical and delicate circumstances,
they do not disturb or shock the animal functions,
hut restore their order and re-establish their health;

rpms incomparable and invaluable remedy so
-i- long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 years, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
( human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su .ess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
I or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
I and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his tw - o tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy - of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed gi.cn by Wabeuoshe, to
M. Chevevet, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had tw - ice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to

The extraordinary reputation lhat Dr. Spohn’s

That so much suffering should have existed forages

f INHESE medicines are indebted for their name

act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ol every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coqts of the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities con-tantly settling around them ; and to
remove the hardened fieces which collect
convolustons of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al coslivcness with 1 11 its train ofevils. or in a sud
den diarrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This fact
is well known to ail regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and heme
the prejudice ot those well informed men against
quack nieilicmes—or medicines prepared and hcr
laded to the public bv ignorant pi rsons. Ihe se
cond effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary
organs. The blood, which takes its red color from
the agency ol the liver and the lungs before it
passes into Ihe liea t, being thus purified by them
and nourished by food coming from a clean stom
ach, courses freely ih.ough the veins, renews every
part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the
banner ot health in the blooming check.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign

which afflict the huntar- frame. In fever and

most eminently successful; so much so that in the

All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly

, The Chronici.e ane Sentinel is devoted to
. Commerce, PoLiTics,and General Intelligence.
Its location in the principal mart of the State,
; gives it decided advantages over the papers of any

all classes of society, the earliest and most impor
tant commercial intelligence.
In Politics, it is the advocate of a sound curren
cy, based upon specie—the re-charter of a National
Hank the principles of State Rights—economy
reform and retrenchment in the Federal adminis
tration :—and opposes the leading measures of the
present administration of the Gener; 1 Government.
In miscellany and general intelligence, great
care is taken to render the paper both valuable and
interesting to all classes of society.
The proprietors will, as soon a’s their circulation
is sufficiently enlarged, (which they hope will be
in the course of t e present year,) increase the size

HERMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason oi
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
ry duration of its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an indefinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on whicli it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
tories.
