LOUIS OFFON GOELICKE,
of Germany , i
The Greatest or Human Benefactors
Citizens of North and South America,
To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. D., of Germany
[Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
a new and precious doctrine to the sconce of medi
ec j nc —a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed
oy many of the faculty, (of which he is a valuable
member,) he proves to be as well founded in truth
as any doctrine of Holy Writ —adoctjne, upon the
verity of which are suspended the lives of millions
of our race, and which he boldly challenges his op
posers to refute, viz: Consumption is- a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered state of Vis Vibe
(or Life Principle) of the human body: (Q* often
secretly lurking in the system for years before
there is the least complaint of tire Lungs ./J}—and
which may be as certainly, though nut so quickly,
cured, as a common cold ora simple headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine this, as B imparts an
important lesson to the apparently healthy of botli
sexes, teaching them that this insidious foe may
be an unobserved inmate of their “ clayey houses”
even while they imagine themselves] secure from
its attacks, teaching them that the greed secret in the
ait of preserving health is to pluck out the disease
wtien in the blade, and not wait till ilk full grown
tar. I
This illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled
to youi unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude of a
world, for the invention of his inatHtlkss Sanative,
—whose healing liat may justly ci-tm ior it such a
title, since it has so signally triumphed over our
great common enemy, Consumpt ion, both in
the first and last stages, —a mcdicinp which lias
thoroughly tilled the vacuum in the Materia Medica,
and thereby proved itself the QU/’ Conqueror of Phy
tic iansjff) —a medicine, for which [all mankind
will have abundant cause to bless the beneficent
hand of a kind Providence, —a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pourtray
cd even by s nne erf our clergy, in their pastoral
visits to tee sick chamber ; by which, means they
often become the happy instruments off hanging de
sponding into hope, sickness into health, and sad
of friends into joyfulncss !
£} Q 3 5 ! 9
GOELICKE'S MATCHLESS SA NATIVE,
A medicine of more value to man than the vast
of Austria, or even the united treasures of
our globe, —a medicine, which is obtained equally
from the vegatable, animal and mineral kingdoms,
and thus possesses a three-fold power,--a medicine,
which, thouga designed a» a remedy for consump
tion solely, is possessed of a mysterious influence
over many diseases of the human system, —a medi
cine, which begins to be valued by physicians, who
are daily witnessing its astonishing cures of many
whom they had resigned to the grasp of the Insa
tiable Grave.
DOSE of the Sanative, for adults, one drop; for
children, a half-drop; and for infants, a quarter
drop; the directions explaining the manner of ta
king a half or a quarter drop.

A certificate from three members of the Medical
Profession in Germany, in Europe.
We, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine
In Germany, are well aware that, by our course,
we may forfeit the friendship of some of the facul-
Q ty, but not of its benevolent members, who are un
influenced by sellish motives. r i hough wc shall
refrain from an expression of our opinion, cither
of the soundness or unsoundness of Di. Goclick’s
new doctrine, we are happy to say that wc deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known—for what our eyes behold and our cars
hear, we must believe.
We Hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Often
Goelick first came before the German public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be
a base impostor ar d the prince of quacks. But, on
hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it
tad for it, we were induced, from motives of curi
osity merely, to make trial ot its reputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeless patients; and
wc now deem it our bounden duty (even at the
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge
its efficacy in curing not only consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore
believed to be incurable. Our contempt for the
discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results; and, as amends for our abuse of him, we J
do frankly confess to the world, that we believe i
him a philanthropist, who docs honor to the proses- ;
sicn, and to our countiy, which gave him birth.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some ;
o our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
that it performs all promises. It needed not our
estimony, for wherever it is used it is its own best
wi ness. HERMAN ET.DULLER, m. d.

A Late and Valuable Discovery.

advertisements of nostrums that arc constantly ap

claim, our souls are stc.h, edit ears are pained with
every day’s reporis of ills ffnd specifics. This state
of the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new' dis

Bnll, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, w inch we are con

consideration has prompted ihe author of these bil

ly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic, so much, that even

he has been restored to health. Mrs. Coshy was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by i lie use of these bitters. This has been the case
with many of Ins fri- nds. Mr. Coshy in sending

Radical Cure ol'llernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Clm.se’s Improved Surgeons* Trusses.
fTTHIE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
JL stoic of Messrs. J. J. Robertson & Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every' case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearothcr
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit, of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
> applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring undei
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from someresponsi*
ble person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety' of reducible rupture,

DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
docs not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts arc made
known to the faculty', or any one else that may

say nothing of the difficulty of raising tire Tomato

Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the

which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they' are all that they
profess to be, and will do for utheis what they
liavc done for such as mav have used them ; as

S as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
j of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
| as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
t system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It lias
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
avertable J that .aey contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty’ embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it Is Were it a patent mystery,
t they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.c anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato

incomparable and invaluable remedy so
long known, and used with such unparraileled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeats, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through al! of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su cess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
of recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabekothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly’ and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every' tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to tiro
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
witk, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below vs a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed gi>en by Wabenoshe, to
M. Chevcrct, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the t hies himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”

PETERS’ VEGETABLE PILLS.
r*MIESiI Pills aro no longer among thos? of
A doubtful utility. ‘J hey have passed away
from the hundreds that are daily launched upon
the tide of experiment, and now stand before the
public as high in reputation, and as extensively
employed in all parts of the United Btatcs, the Can
adas.'Texas, Mexico, and the W est Indies, as any
n.tdicine that has ever been prepa ed for the relief
of suffering man. 'i hey have been introduced
w herever it was found possible to cany them ; and
there are hut few towns that do not contain some
rema’kable evidences of their good effects. The
certificates that have been presented to the proprie
tor exceed twenty thousand ! upwards of five hun
dred of w hich are from regular practising physicians,
who arc the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicine
been the subject of editorial comment in various
newspapers and journals ; and it may with truth
be asserted, that no me heme of the kind has ever
received testimonials of gnater value than are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine,
and there are thousands of families who declare
they are never satisfied unless they have a supply
always on hand. 1
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Bilious fevers, fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,

the Bowels, whete a cathartic or an aperient i»

HERMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason of
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina

many other extracts and essences is almost as eva

they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an in definite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
