LOUIS OFFON GOEJ.ICKE,
of Germany, f
The Greatest of Human lenf.factors
Citizens of North and South America,
To Louts Offon Goelicke, M D., of Germany,
[Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
a new and precious doctrine to tl J; science of medi
cine—a doctrine which, though vUtiemently opposed
by many of the faculty, (of whic|i he is a valuable
member,) be proves to be as wcl> ; founded in truth
as any doctrine of Holy Writ —a doctrine, upon the
verity of which are suspended th| lives of millions
of our race, and which he boldly |halienges his op
posers to refute, viz : Consumpti(|i is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered estate of Vis Vitae
(or Life Principle) of the humai|body: oO 3 often
secretly lurking in the system /"or years before
here is the least complaint of thefLungs —and
which may be as certainly, though Lot so quickly,
cured, as a common cold or a simp j: headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine this,/ as imparts an
important lesson to the apparently*healthy of both
sexes, teaching them tnat tnis in|idious ioe may
be an unobserved inmate of their A clayey houses”
even while they imagine themselves secure from
its attacks, teaching them that the it secret inthe
ait of preserving health is toplucl | out the disease
when in the blade, and not wait tue full grown
ear. I
This illustrious benefactor ot mas is also entitled
to yom unfeigned gratitude, and th| gratitude ol a
world, for the invention of his matthless Sanative,
—whose healing fiat may justly claim for it such a
title, since it has so signally trim Jphed over our
great common enemy, Consumption, both in
the first and last stages,—a mediitne which has
thoroughly tilled the vacuum in the |lateiia Medica,
and thereby proved itself the Conqueror oj Phy

will have abundant cause to bless Ure beneficent
hand of a kind Providence, —a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glow (ugly pourtray

which, thougn designed as a remedy! for consump

are daily witnessing its astonishing tfures of many

A Late ami Valuable Discovery.
I>ERHAFs there is nothing .-no’-' 5 calculated to
disgust ttie public eye than the innumerable
advertisements ot nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in tho public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics This state
of the public mind w-onldseem to forbid any person
ot delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, lo the trial us the public.—
Rtill, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, which we are con
fident will benefit our follow men. Tins latter
consideration has prompted the authorof these hit
ters to make I hem know n. He knows they are high
ly efficacious, for he himseli, his wife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even
his recollection was pone. Hy using these hitters
he has been restored to health. Mr t . Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by (he use of those hitters. This has been the case
with many oi his trends. Mr. Cosby in sending
forth litis advertisement, addresses those who know
him. Ho has been for many years a resident ol
Augusta at which place he can at any time bs
consulted about iho bitters. They are good in all
cases of diseases ot the digestive organs, the symp
toms of w hich are indigestion, pain or oppression
in the stomach from food, lossot appetite, flatulen
cy, heart t urn, giddiness in the head, pain in the
side, shortness of breath, lassitude, general weak
ness, distu:bet sleep, &c The composition is en
tirely Hoianied, and has proved efficacious when
many celebrated medicines had failed. In support
of which he refers them to Freeman W. Lacy, she
rift'ot Kichmond countv, and \V illiam T. Thomp
son, editor ol the Au usta Mirror, and he might re
fer you to many others, hut deems it unnecessary
as tie is w illing to place it on its ow n merits. All
he asks is tor tnose who are afflicted with the dys

Radical Cure ol Jlermaor Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
MMHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
I store of Jlessrs. J. J. Robertson Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now- used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy'forbid,
he could name several persons w'ho have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
aliection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The so lowdng is the language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
44 The Instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials mire severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearothec
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus Known to the committee.”
44 The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
higiiest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
44 All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
y r et invented to effect the object.”
Personsfrom a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate.from some responsi*
ble person,of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety of reducible rupture.

common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “live days,”'—the
same su .-ess which followed it in a Northern lati

or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wasenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
\\ abenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already' enriched to an ahnost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in

at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
