FREE TRADE AND NO i ONOPOLY
Opposition to High Freigta Tariffs!
Ofhick of tub Fashion Link. )
Augusta, April 15, 1864. )
fTYJIK subscriber would respectfully call the attention f
A the Merchants throughout Georgia, Tennessee, Ala
bama and South Carolina, to the Savannah River, as a
safe, expeditious aud cheap route for the iransportationof
their Merchandise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with thoseif
the couth Carolina, and Central, aud Waynesboro’ Rail
roads, it will show a result in favor of this route of from 30
to 50 per cent., generally, and in some instances a greater
per ceutage.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment of his
Goods together; they are not retailed to him as they gen
erally are by Railroads connecting wi h the seaboard, with
a list of charges attached to each package.
In addition to the present force of thin line, another new
Boat, of light draught of water, will be a Ided during the
coinicg summer. These boats will leave Savannah after
the discharge of the New York arid Philadelphia St.am
ships, twice or thr* e times a week, delivering those Goods
at this point in FIVE DAYS.
Frem the present low tariff of this line a deduction of
12>j percent, wi 1 be allowed on oil bins from this date.
Give the river more business, and a cheaper freight yet
awaitsyou.
Ail goods from the seaboard should be directed to
M. A. OOULN, savannah,
and produce from the Interior to
JNO. A. MOOPE, Augusta.
To '.he manufacturing portion of Georgia, ai well as the
Cotton Merchants, and d- aiers generally, on the line of
Railroads ehrougn Georgia and Tennessee, who ship to
bavannah and Northern markets, this route oilers very
favorable ibducements.
Tofaciiitate shipments, as wel! as j
of landing should be for*arded to M. A. Cohen, at Savan- |
nah, for all goods from seabord. JNO. A MOORE.

IT’IRK-PROOK AND FREEFROM DAMPNESS,
' E. CORNING A CO., Agents, Albany, N. Y.—This
Safe received thehigbest pr-emium. a Silver Medal, at the
Fairof the New-York State Agricultural Society, held at
Albany, 1 850. Also, a Medal and Diploma for the best
Burglar and Fire-Proof Safe exhibited at the State Fair
held at Utica, bept. 1552.
THE FIRE-KING SAFES AGAIN TRIUMPHANT!
SIOOO will be paid, if reliable evidence is shown, where
they ever failed to protect valuables from fire, whereas
other makers’Safes have proved utterly worthless in va
rious accidental and experimental tests, some of which
have occurred recently. Read the following from Messrs.
A. McClure 4 Ca., wholesale and retail dealers in Drugs,
Medicines, 4c.;
A i.bany, July 27,1852.
This is to certify, that on the 23d of July, 1852, our en
tire stock, composed of Turpeiitine, Alcohol, Oil, Paints,
Medicines, Ac., was consumed by Ure ; so rapid and severe
was the fire, that we were unable to close our Base, until ;
Mr. Pohlman subsequently entered at the peril ol h)3 life,
and closed the doors. On forcing the safe open, after all
this exposure to the fire, which made us fearful for the
safety of its contents, its valuables were found uninjured!
VVe have so much confidence in the security of the Fire-
King, that we shall immediately replace it by another.
A. MoCI.URK A Co.
A NOTH EC Test.—This is to certify, that on the 25th of
September last, we purchased of H JD. Rice, Esq., one of
Mr. J. M. B. Davidson’s “ Fire-kings,” (No. 4, Single
Flange); that on the 14th November past,it was subject
ed to a very severe test, in the burning of our warehouse,
in which was stored a large quantity of whiskey an ! other
) combustible material. On opening our safe, we found all
our papers, consisting of bills, letters and receipts, perfect
and entirely legible. Bradley A Co.
Dunkirk, December 4,1852.
J. iVI.il. Davidson's Fire-King Safes, iu Kxperi
iiteutnl and Accidental Fires, challenge Com
petition.
This is to certify, that on the 7th of May, 1551,1 pur
chased of J. M. B. Davidson, a No. 7, Single Flange Safe,
and that the same was subjected to a severe test, on the
loth of December, 1851. AfteL. . e fire was extinguished
its contents (books and papers,) were examired, and found
to be perfectly preserved, nut a leaf of my books being
scorched. P. J. Claassen,
Importer of Wines, Segars, Ac., Broadway, Albany.
After an examination ol P. J. Claassen’s Safe and pa
pers, we are convinced of the superiority o. mavidson’a
