UNION WASHING MACHINE
— ANO —
WRINGER COMBINED.
I T would take tim- to count up the different
kind- 1 of Washing Machines, which have in Va
rious ways, for the lust ten years, solicited the at
tention of housekeepers, boasting themselves as
the ne plus ultra of inventions iri that line. But
somehow, the promises they made we: e not ful
filled. At any rate, none ot them found their way
into general use. and the horrorsof wash-day con
tinued as horrible as ever. This was to be re
gretted. since, within the whole range of domes-
t c wants, there is no desideratum like that of a
machine that would actually do what the inven
tions we have referredjto so freely promised.
If. however, we are not gr.-atly mistaken the
discovery of the right thing has been hit upon,
and the labors and miseries of-‘blue M--nday.” or
any oiht-r day usually devoted to the week s lava-
lion, are toon to be numbered among disagreea.
ble memories. This change has been nccompli>h-
ed by the invention ol Mr. Johnson who, in what
is called hisUaion Washing Machine, with its at
tachment has produced au apparatus, which, for
its capacity of cleansing and wringing out clothes,
se- ms to be without a defect.
Its advantages are numerons. It is a great
time and immense libor saver, it cleanses, by the
same number of operations, as perfectly as the
strongest and most careful hand can do n\ U
savos wear and tear; 1- is very simple, not liable
to get out of order, and can be worked by any
body with sense and streugtb enough to put clothes
in a tub and move back and forth a crank, which
yields to a very slight pressure. Having seen it iu
operation, we are satisfied that the following
statement of its claims is not exaggerated: I
wa-bes every description of fabrics from a col:ar
to a blanket, by a new and improved process, and
or common sente and scientific^ priuciplts. a O
soaking or boiling is required. Cloths are wa.-b
ed quicker, cleaner aud more perfectly than by
any other system, witbcul ihe least injury and
without ruboing. While other machines require
herculean strength to operate them,_ “ I he Union
can be worked by a boy or girl; indeed, U is as
simple as an old fashioned grind stone.
The attachment we have m-ntioned as a Clothes
Wringer, by the use ol which we can readily be
lieve as is claimed for it, not only are the pains
and aches of band wringing avoided, but clothes
will host at least one-third longer. The rollers
being flexible, it rings perfectly all kinds of fab
rics and thicknesses, from a lace collar to a blank
et. and at the same time if required. When at
tached to the Union Washing Machine, clothes
mav be washed, wrung and rinsed without put
ting Ihe hand ia water, inhaling steam, or Spill
ing slops. tester* acestl
