Our esteemed cotemporary, and good-na
tured frit>nd, Charley Willingham, of the La
grange Reporter, who has never quailed at
despotism, and trill never desert his people
for^a tlinrc in the spoils filched from them
by corrupt officials, comes to the rescue of
his erring excursion companions, and thuM
accounts for tho “Pale Ale” demonstrations.
“If there was any political trickery prac.
ticcd in the excursion, the game did not take
with the writer. We have returned from the
excursion with the sarno political feelings
and sentiments wc started with. Indeed,
we heard little or nothing of politics. True,
a few uuguardfd expressions were given in t he
form of toasts we did not agree with or drink
to. The toast of Mr. Hancock, of the Sum
ter Republican, referring to Bollock as a mod-
el Governor, we did not swallow; nor did
hut a few. If any of the press; nor did we
respond in applause to the MOtimeut.AXfrMs
ed by Mr. CUsby, of the Macon Telegraph
favorable to the administration of our so-
caUstl Governor ; nor did any of the Demo
crat ie pres* that we saw. Nor do we believe
(hat Mr. Hancock regards Bullock as a mod**
el Governor, or that Mr. CUsby endorses ihe
administration ot Bullock. The tnilh is,
both parties were writhing under the burden
of good humor, heightened, perhaps, by the
genial, sparkling champagne, and, were not
very particular os to what they.were saying.
Out of these, perhaps thoughtless, incidents
of the excursion, hpa grown all the suspicion
that it was a grand poliUoallrick.-rMembers
of the press behaved themselves courteously
towards Bu)t<$ek» when thrown with him, out
of respect for the office he tilled. Some of
us quietly avoided his presence; because we
could have no respect for the man who had
so slandered Georgia, and did not wish to do
anything that'would mar the harmony of the
excursion.”
We have no doubt this is ihe truth of the
matter, but ib is evideat some guns of small
calibre hare been spiked and silenced.
Whether with r<7Wail fifes’or pardoning proc
lamations we are net informed.

congratulate the new Governor, who shook

Gor. Walker's first appointment made after
.assuming the duties of his office to-day, was
that of Capt. W. O. Cameron, editor of the

years. The Investigation is still in progress.
JLatxr.—-The alleged fraud discovered in
the Methodist Book Concern seems to lie in
the Tact that Dr. Porte? allowed his son, who
was a paper broker, to charge heavy commis

Irregularities ore also reported in the bind

Albany Cotton Market.
Since our last report so little has been
doing that our report to day amounts to
form only. Planters arc taking advantaga
of tho fine weather for picking, and are ex
erting their utmost energy to get their crops
out at an early day. By tho 10th of October
theentire crop in this section will have open
ed, and a month later will catch very little
in the fields of the industrious.
The receipts for the week ending yester
day, as will be seen by the subjoined state
ment, were very light, and the general dis
position to hold for better prices has almost
put a stop to sales. None sell except those
who feel compelled to have a little money,
aud they dispose of only so much as is neces
sary to relieve their immediate and pressing
wants.
Buyers take all that is offered, but con-
slantly insist that the crop is a heavy one,
an! that prices must descend to a much low.,
ef figure than the present. They see their
ride of the question. We look through dif
ferent glasses, and see the planter’s picture.
Our market reporter hands us the follow
ing.*
.. TJlie sales for the week have teen very
light in proportion to t]ie receipts. Planters
generally have deteminedTo hold, in view
of the fact that their drafts are light and
easily met. The 3 p. m. New York dispatch
es adviso a considerable advance, owing to
scarcity of the staple on the spot.

It will be seen that the stock on hand has
increased for the week ending yesterday,
while the receipts were no greater than the
week previous. At our last report the stock
was 381. Now it is 966, showing that the
planters are determined to hold.
Albany Stock Market.
' The decline in cotton caused planters to
withdraw from the market, and a week of
dullness is the result. Several horses, how
ever,, were sold at fair prices.
The market ia pretty well supplied with
moles, but the demand is yet inactive.
