THUItSDAY. SEPT. 23.
Ef* Our Correspondents will please to exer
cise a little patience. They will see how our co
lumns are occupied with very interesting intelli
gence from France.
BjT Our Correspondent “Saxcho” will excuse
us for the liberty we have taken with his commu
nication, of omitting certain parts of it.
•EP Bv the graduated Board, our River is but
very little above low water mark.
EFBy reference to our advertising columns, it
w ill be seen that the Governor has called the
session of the Legislature on the 18th of October.
John T. Rowland, Esq. has been chosen by
the Board of Diiectors, President of the Biancb
of the State Bank established at Macon.
Macon has been lately attempted to be set on
Ore. Several evidences of the incendiary’s de
sign are mentioned in the Macon papers, Lx.ides
Jfehe burning on the 15th of the stables of Messrs,
Sage & Higgins, which were contiguous
to each other.
Eleven arid half cents were refused on Friday
last for a lot ol choice Cotton in Macon.
A Tieafy for their removal beyond tlie Mis
sissippi, has been concluded with the Cbicka
saws at Franklin, and (lie President is on his
toute to the Seat of Government.
Not a syllable in confirmation of the report of
the President’s stopping further expenditure for
the ( migration of the Creeks until they would all
consent In go, has met our eye. We were sure,
there was a mistake about the matter. The
President was incapable of such perfidy. It is
belied 100 by his recent kind behavior to the
Chickasaw* and Choctaws.
A slip from the Columbia, (S C.) Times, in
forms us that between 2 and 3000 persons atten
ded the " Political Meet ini'” on Monday last at
that place, and after discussioiis on the subject
of State action by Chancellor Harper, Judge
Richardson. Col Thos. Taylor, sen’r., Col. Sam
uel Hammond, &c. the question on the resolu
tion offered by Mr. Harper, advising the calling
nf u Convention after the uilj-urunient of the
next Congress, was taken, and carried nearly
unanimously.

Mr. Editor i —l have been much amused at
the many efforts which have been recently made,
and are now making by the Editors of the Con
stitutionalist to excite party feelings at the ap
proaching election. But if they were apprised
that their motives were fully known to most of
their fellow-citizens, I am convinced they would
cease to publish any further squibs on the sub
ject. They should recollect that the people were
misled by false reports which were circulated
against Judge Rhodes at the last election, rela
tive to his being opposed to Mr. Forsyth, and
that they are now on their guard, and will not
again be deceived by such artifice. They should
also know, that the people are generally appri
sed that no one of the candidates will vote
against Mr. Forsyth, and that if doubts should
exist, the candidates themselves will be consult
ted, and the mere statement of others not again
received as evidence against them. Knowing
that the following gentlemen will support Mr.
Forsyth, they are respectfully recommended to
the voters of Richmond, as suitable persons to
represent them in the next Legislature.

THE DUKE OF ORLEANS.
[Continuedfrom No. 39.]
With a passport from the French Government,
he arrived at Philadelphia in October, 1795.
The Directory then released from imprisonment
his two Brothers, who joined him in this country
in the beginning of 1796, and travelled with him
to the Great Lakes, spending a short time among
the Aborigines; thence down the Ohio and Mis
sissippi, proceeding to the Havana, where he
remained eighteen months waiting an answer to
a letter to the King of Spain, requesting permis
sion to join the Duchess of Orleans, who had
found an asylum in that kingdom. Having no
answer from the Spanish monarch, he proceeded
to the Island of Providence, and from thence to
Halifax. The Duke of Kent, who, at that time,
goverhed Nova Scotia, received the Brothers
with great hospitality, and at his invitation they
determined on taking up their residence in Eng
land, which they did in 1800. Anxious to see
Ins mother, from whom he had now been absent
ten years, he einbnrked fur Spain, but he was
destined to lie disappointed, for in consequence
of the war with England, the vessel, after reach
ing port, was ordered otf. He had the misfor
tune of losing one of lit brothers in England,
and the other died in Malta, where lie had been
taken l.y ttie Duke for the benefit of the climate.
From Malta lie proceeded to Palermo, where
Ferdinand of Sicily held his court, aud where,
drlcimining to assist the Spaniards in defending
their country against Napoleon, he was joined
in that determination by tin King's second son
Leopold, and they set out together for Gibraltar,
whore they landed, but were refused permission
to enter Spain. Fiom Gior.iltar he returned to

If a gang of incendiaries set a house on fire,
and it be discovered, though the fire be put out,
and the building saved, by the laws of the land
they must be hung for arson.
Should not then a gang of political incendia
ries, who would set the Union on fire, and burn
down the fabric of our liberties, share the same
fate for Treason ?
If we enforce the law in one case, why should
we permit the gallows to be cheated cut of its
rights in the other ?
Why was Aaron Burr tried for his life, for a
less bold and visible offence, than has been recent
ly detected against the Union, k the ring-leaders
of the latter permitted to range at large, still bent
upon their treason?—ls the Union less valuable
and sacred in 1830, than it was in 1804?
