Yc son* ot Fiance awake to glory f
Jlark ! hark ! what myriads bid you rise;
Your children, wives and grancUires hoary
Behold their tears and hear their cries ?
Shall hotel'dl tyin«t* mischief breeding
With hireling hosts, a ruffian bond,
Affright and desolale your land,
While peace and liberty ID bleeding 1
To arms, to arms, ye brave,
Tit’ avenging sword un»heath ;
Marc on ! march on! all hearts resolved
On victory or on death.
>:»« row the dreadful storm is roiiinsr,
Whreh trearheroit* Kings confederate raire ;
3 hr dogs of war let loose are howling,
And too your ft'dds and cities blaze ;
And shall wr basely view the riun,
■f.Vhite lawless foe* with guilty pride
Spread desulalion far and wide
With crimes and blond their hands imbruing !
To arms, to arms, Lc.
With lotnry and p’ide surrounded
The viV insatiate despots dare
From lust of power end gold unbounded
To mete and vend the light and eir,
I,ike beasts of burden they would lead us
Like gods would bid their slaves adore,
Cut man i* man, and who is more ?
Then shall they longer lash and goad us ?
To arms, to arms, &c.
ft Liberty, rnn man rr.ipn thee
Once having felt thy generous (lame;
i an dungeons, bolts and liars confine tiiee,
4jt whips thy noble spirit tame?
*i'no Dntr tin l world bus wept, bewailing
That falsehood’s dagger tyrants wield,
Hut Freedom isoursword .and shield,
And nit their arts arc unavailing,
To arm*, to arm*, —Sic.

PROPOSALS,
FOR PUBLISHING BY SUBSCRIPTION,
A COMPENDIUM
' OF THE
LAWS OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA,
By Arthur Foster,
CONTAINING all the Statutes, and the sub
stance of all the. Revolutions* of a general
and.public nature, and now of lorce, which have
been passed in said Stijte from the j car 16120, to
the year 1829, both inclusive, with occasional
explanatory notes and connecting references, and
a list of the statutes repealed or obsolete. To
which is added an appendix, containing the
constitution of tiie Slate of Georgia, as amended ;
also, references to such local acts as relate to
towns, counties. Internal Navigation.,'/'ounty Ac
ademics, tfc., and a collection ot the most appro
ved/arms used in carrying the above named
laws into effect; with a
whole. It will l>e something like a continuation
of Prince’s Digest repealed or altered. It may
be observed, that the Legislature of Georgia are
in the constant practice of.repealing, altering,
or amending Laws passed at their previous ses
sions, so that, without such a Digest or Compi
lation of,then*, ns is now respectfully offered to
the public, it actually requires a lawyer, or a
peii >n who has devoted much time to the exam
ination and comparison of the diffeient enact
ments of each succeeding session of the LegislaJ
ture. to be acquainted with all tiie law 9 which
are of force: And having witnessed with much
pleasure the immense public utility and popula
rity of the Digest compiled by Oliver H. Fiince,
Esq., and also having no doubt but n similar
Compendium of the Laws from the time of that
publication down to the present, with the addi
tion of the pi ecedcnis, or forms, which will be
placed in the Appendix, and which will add
greatly to the public utility of tbe work, and to
the furtherance of justice, would be very useful
and acceptable to the public, the Compiler has
ventured upon the arduous and important un
dertaking However, not relying altogether on
bis own judgement, or the experience of having
been a member of the Legislatute during the
pas-age of most of the laws now proposed to be
published, ami at the administration of them for
eight year* as a Justice of the Inferior Court, in
n County whore much business of an intricate
nature is transacted in that Couit and the Cqurt
of Ordinary ;• after completing the manuscript it
has been placed in the bands of gentlemen,
eminently learned in the law, who, alter a strict
and chi elu l examination, have politely tendered
to him the subjoined Certificates'.
I have examined “ A Digest of tbe laws of
Georgia from 1820 so 1829, inclusive, by A. Eos
tkk, Ksq." and think the work executed with
judgement and accurary. The work is intend
ed a* a continution ot Prince’s Digest, and is, in
my opinion, well calculated to answer that valu
able purpose. Although tbe nuthor is not pio
fts-lou.illy a Lawyer, lie snenis, in nrcertaining
the statutes note of fore*, to hare added tnitcli
care, exuniinalion, and study, to hi3 ndvardnges
as a practical legislator, during most of the pe
riod embraced rn hi* wotk.

yin Album of Music , Poetry and PrSse ;
AT a period like the present, when the Selene#
of Music stands so high in public estima
tion—forms so important a feature in education
—takes so prominent a part in the amusements of
good society—and constitutes a part of the holy,
offices of the Clmrch: it is uo less a ma,tier of.
surprise than of regret, that its interests should
temain destitute of those powerful, auxiliaries hy
which the love of Liturature is so nobly upheld,
and its views are so extensively promoted. In
every other science there now are public chan
nels for the cornmunisaiioh of knowledge, ‘in
w hich the Professor can offet his speculations, or
discuss those of others and the Student cun me.et
with information and suggestions which might
ol her wise escape him. The general progress of
science, we think, demonstrates that they have
been of essentia) service in the promotion of dis
covery, and the aclvanrementof learning. But
Music is without, any assistance, of the kind, in
this country; and why should this he? Why
should an iirt so divine, and wnich affords so spar
cious a j dd for the display of genius, be deprb
ved of tiiat literary support which has been so
libetaiiy extended to others not more deserving
of it ?
The fricT.ds of Music in this country are united
in saying, that a periodical, devoted to the inte
rests of Music is much wanted And as the time
has now arrived, when such a publication would,
probably receive support, the subscriber seeing
no one disposed to enter upon the project, deems
himself justified iu making an offer of his ser
vices.
Essays on Music, style, £:c. reviews of musical 1
works, particulars of all kinds of musical enter

tiety of other musical information, will constitute
the ground work of “ The Luterpeiad.”

Besides the Musie and musical information to
be furnished bv this paper, it will bean object tu
fill a portion of its columns with such literary
matter a* shall be both entertaining end useful
to its roadeis.
The editor will be assisted in his labors by sev
