LAW OF GEORGIA.
AN ACT to provide for the call of a
Convention to reduce the number ol
the General Assembly of the Slate
of Georgia, and for other purposes
therein named.
Be it enacted 6y the Senate and Housi
of Representatives of (he State of Gear
gia in General Assembly met, and it is
hereby enacted by the au'hority of the
same , T hat the first Monday in April,
1833, be, and the same is hereby desig
nated and set apart as ilio day on which
the citizens ol Georgia qualified to vote
for members of the Legislature, shall at
the several places prescribed by law for
holding such elections vote fur delegates
to lepresent them in Convention, in num
ber equal to their representation in both
brandies oflhe General Assembly; such
elections lo be conducted, managed and
certified under the same law as are of
force in respect to elections of members
of the General Assembly.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted , That
it shall be the duty of such managers to
transmit to his excellency the Governor
the result of said elections under the laws
now of force for conduciing managing and
certifying elections of members"f General
Assembly as aforesaid, within 30 days af
ter such elections Whereupon it is made
the duty of His Excellency the Govern
or to issue his proclamation declaring the
result. t*T sard elections bv naming the
individuals severally elected to tepresetu
the good people of Georgia in Convention
as contemplated by this act.
Sec. 3, %ndbe it further enacted, That
every citizen of iheTJnited Sidles shall be
eligible to a seat in said Convention who
has,attained ihe age of twen'y-fivo years,
and been an inhabitant of this Stale seven
years immediately preceding (tie day of
his election and who shall have resided
one year'in the county Gr which he shall
be elected.
Sec. 4, And be it further enacted, Thai
each member returned as duly elected,
shall previous to taking his seal in said
Convention take the following oath, or
affirmation, viz: I, A. B. do solmnly
swear, that I will not attempt to add to r
or take from the constitution or attempt
to change or alter any other section,clause
or article of ihe constitution of the State
of Georgia, other than those touching the
representation in the General Assembly
thereof; and that I have been a citizen
of this state for the last seven years, so
help me God. And any person elected
to a seat in said Convention, who shall
refuse to lake the o.th aforesaid,shall npt
be allowed to take his seat in said Con
vent ion.
Sec. 5, And be it further enacted, Thai
the members of said Convention shall
assemble on the first Monday ia May af
ter their election, at Miiledgeville, in
the Representative Chamber of jhe State
House, fur tbe purpose of entering upon
and consummating the great objects of
their convention, to-wit: a reduction and
equalization of the Geooral Assembly;
shall have power to prescribe their own
rules and forms of business, and to deter
mine on the qualifications of their own
members; elect necessary officeis, and
make all ordeis which they may deem
cenductive to (he furtherance of the ob.
ject for w hich such Convention shall as
semble.
Sec. 6, Arid be it further enacted, That
it shall be the duty of His Excellency the
Governoi to give publicity to ihe altera
tions and amendments made in the Con
stitution in reference to the direction [re
ductionf of tbe number of the members
composing the General Assembly, and
the first Monday in October next, after
tbe nsing of the said Convention, he shall
fix for the ratification, of such new arti
cles as they may make for the object of
reduction and equalization of the Gener*
al Assembly only: and >f ratified by a ma~
1 jor tty of the voters who vote on the ques
tion of‘.'Ratification” ot“ No Ratification
then and in that even', the alterations
so by them made and ratified, shall | e
binding on the people of this State and
not otherwise.
Sec. 7 And be it further enacted , That
i: shall be a fundamental ai tide in the
formation or amendment of the Consti
tution, that each county of the State now
organized or laid out, or which may her
after be created by law, shall be euti'.lerj
to at least one representative in the rep
resentative branch of the General Assem
bly,
Sec. 8, And be it further enacted, That

published iu the Gazettes of this State,
once a week until the day fixed on bv
this act for the election of delegates to
said Convention; and that all laws and
parts of laws militating against this act,
