LAW OF GEORGIA.
AN ACT to provide for the call of a
Convention to-reduce the number oi
the General Assembly of the State
of Georgia, and for other purposes
therein named. !.
Jit it enacted by the Senate and House
of Representatives of the State of Geor
gia in General Assembly met , and it is
hereby enacted by the authority of the
same , T hat tho fifst Monday in April,
1833, be, and the same is hereby desig
nated and set apart as the day on which
the citizens of Georgia qualified to vote
for members nt the Legislature, shall ai
the several places prescribed, by law for
bolding such elections vpie for delegates
to represent them in Convention, in num
ber equal to their representation in botfi
branches of the General A>s*ntbly; such
elections to, be conducted, managed and
certified under the same law as are ol
force in respect to elections of members
of the General Assembly. ,
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted. That
it shall be-the duty of such managers td
transmit to his excellency the Governor
the result of said elections under the laws
now of force for conduct irig managing and
certifying elections of membersof General
Assembly as aforesaid, within 30 days af
ter such ejections—Whereupon it is made
the doty of Hi? Excellency .the Govern
or to issue his proclamation declaring the
result of said elections by naming the
individuals severally elected to represent
the good people of Georgia iii'Convention
as contemplated by this act. . i
Sec. 3, And be it further enacted, That
every citizen of the United States shall be
eligible to a seat in said Convention who
has attained the age of twenty five years,
and been an inhabitant of this State seven
years immediately preceding the day of
his election and who shall have resided
one year in tbe county far which ho shall
be elected.* ~ ' .
Sec. 4, And be it further enacted, That!
each member returned as duly elected,
shall previous to taking his seat in said
Convention take the following oath, or
affirmation, viz: I, A. B- do sdlmuly
swear, that I will not at tempi Vo add to,
or take from the ©'institution or attempt
to change or alter any Other section,clause
or article of the constitution) of the Stale
of Geoigia, other than those.touching the
representation in the General Assembly
thereof; and*that I have, been a citizen
of thrs state for the last seven years, so
help me God. And any person elected
to a seat in said Convention, who shall
refuse to take ihe oath aforesaid,shall not
be allowed to take his seat in said Cob-,
vent ion.
Sac. 5, And be it further cnncled, Thai

assemble on the fust Monday in May af
ter their election, at -'Milledgeville, in
the Representative Chamber of tin Stair
Jlonse, for tbe purpose of entering upon
aud consummating the great objects of
their convention, to-u-it: a reduction and
equalization of the General Assembly;
shall have power to prescribe their own
rules and forms of business, And lo deter
mine on the qualifications of their own
members; elect nece>sary officers, and
make all ordeis which they may deem
cendoctive to the finthcrance of the ob
ject for which such Couveution shall as
semble.
Sec 6, And be it further enacted, That
it shall be the duty of His Excellency the
Governoi to give publicity to the altera
tions aod amendments made in tbe Con
stii at ion in reference to the direction
duction] of the number of the members
composing ihe General Assembly, and
the firs' Monday in October next, after
the rising of the said Convention, he shall
fix for the ratification, of such new arti
cles as they may make for the object of
• eduction and cqnafixution of the Gener
al Assembly only: and if tatifu-d by a ma
jority of tbe voters who vote on the ques
tion of “Ratification” or“'No Ratification
then aod in that dvrn', the alterations
so hy them made and ratified, shall I c
binding on the people of this State .and

Sec. 7 And be it further enacted, That
it shall be a fundamental at tide in thr
furmation 6r amendment of the Consti
tution’, that each county of the State now
organized nr laid out, or w hich may her
after be created by law, shall be entitled
to at least one representative in the rep
resentative branch ofthe Geneial Assem
bly.
Sec. 8, And be it further enocfref,That

law, His Excellency the Govei hor,be, &,
he is hereby requited to cause it to be
published in the Gazelles of this State,
once a week until the day fixed on bv
this act for the election of delegates to
said Convention; and that all laws and
parts of laws militating ngaiust this act,
be, thte same are hereby repealed

brought to this city in wagons or carts for sale,

Sec. 2d. Be it further ordained, That it shall
