The only objection to such • Uw,
(bat it will be evaded. Admit it, still it

pe highly beneficial. Similar law* have
existed, and now do exist, in all Rympean
sovereignties, with the exception of France
and surety'would long since have been
abolished if they were not ptoved to be
practically advantageous.' That infrac

useful, do occur, is admitted, for punish

them; bat can the possibility of the Uw be
ln£inlrtngsd, be d good reason against it?
- The advantage* of such s law, on the
contrary, are numerous and striking..
While it leaves the merchant full scope
trade in foreign coins, it secures the basis
of the circulation, which can only be attg-
nenlrdf it precludes the possibility ol a su
perabundance of papes currency, for thr
bank* must liquidate their balances ii
American coin, or gold aud silver uncoiu
aN: it gives solidity, end a permanent val

want of it, which we have ho frequently ex
perienced, will not return.
If then, on investigation, the law has
scarcely any objection against it, and
many advantages to recommend it. will it
not strike the representatives of the pe.
pie as advantageous, necessary, and advis
able; and will they not deem it a measure
reauiried for the welfare of the nation?
It is unquestionably a national measure
recommended by experience and reasoning
and fondly called for, to the advancement
of our national prosperity.

shewed Us a counterfeit five dollar bill ol
Barker’s exchange bank of New-York.—1
is much better executed than counterfeit*
usually are, and at first sight was thought
to im superior ih appearance to the genu*

' device, which, on examination, is found
not to be well executed; and the words
•‘New-York,*’are not so well done a*
the original. The paper is good, and has
the reaailk mark of the true bill.—Albany

While the new towns in Alabama, are
the theme of conversation, as well as the

the staple Of oar market, for the culture ol
which our soil is peculiarly adapted, Nash
