FRIDAY EVENING, DHtlin 13, 1822.
Accounts from Milledgeville to the 8ih, state,
that there lias little or nothing been done in either
branch of the legislature, for the last week.—
The bank committee had not yet made their re
port. A resolution has been introduced in the
Mouse for the appointment of a committee tc
examine the state of the banks and report to the
next legislature. It is uncertain what course this
mi a«i e w iil lake. On Wednesday last, the com-
mittW on the Hammond case were to have made
their report—it is saiJ that the report ii unfavor
able to Governor Clark; and that a vote of cen
sure will be passed on him, for removing Col.
Hammond from the office of Secretary of State.
The legislature will probably adjourn on the
20th instant tine the.
TTie seeds of discontent which were felt in
franco at the period when the silted powers fore
«d upon the French nation an old, worn oil',
powerless and therefore in the eyes of a g'eirt
proportion of the French people, contemptible
dydasty, are now beginning to generate From
■Mie manner in which the Bourbon dynasty was
replaced upon the French throne, it was always
reasonable to consider the tenure of its ae. t very
unstable. There is a principle in human nature
which revolts at compulsion, atid though Louis
the I81I1, with all Ins gout and infirmities, might
-be the btd ruler and greatest benefaction that
France ever witnessed, still it would be ever re
j.umbvred ugliest him, that he was indebted for
Jus throne noi to the free will of the French nation,
but to the bayonets of invading enemies. Un
der -uch ci re urn stances, we consider it morally
amp «asifch' that he colihl ever gain a powerful
hold upon the affections or a nation, constituted
like the French, and to which a love of military
4me had become, anil still i^ the ruling passion.
