ELLIS’ COMPOUND
Kreosote Tooth Wash*
I’ccommtndtd by the Faculty.
T HIS compound will be found serviceable in
arresting and preventing decay in teeth;
keeping the teeth and gums in a healthy and clean
condition ; sweetening die breath; removing tar
tar. and relieving pain caused by carinns teeth.
Few discoveries in modern chemistry promise
more important results than tlmt of Kreosote, hy
Dr. Reicnenhach, on eminent chemist of Blnns-
ko. in Monrovia. It is a highly rectified liquid
product, obtained from wood, and is analogous to
charcoal in it* antiseptic properties, but l»r more
powerful ns a corrective and preventive of de
cay. Charcoal, notwithstanding its well known
cleansing properties, is objectionable ns n denti
frice, on account of it* insolubility, and the risk
of minute particle* remaining between tho teeth
and producing injury. Kreosote, on the contra
ry, cannot be liable to this objection, and posses
ses, ton much greater extent, the «nti**ntic and
purifting properties of the former. The trial*
wliicfi have been made with it. in tiii* country
and Europe have proved its efficacy.
It U strongly recommended by tho Faculty ns
the best preventive again*! caries in teeth. To
sweeten the breath, rendered offensive hy decay
ed teeth, the use of tobacco, or other enusns, and
to arrest decay itself, it stands pre-eminent.
FUis's compound Kreosote Tuath Hash, com
bine* the virtues of Kreo«ote, of the strengdi
adapted for this purpose, with other substance*
known to he highly advantageous in whitening
and preserving the teeth.
It S* confidently recommended to the pnhlicas
_ -aliinble compound, which may be used daily
with grent advantage to the teeth and gum*, nt the
same time leaving an agreeable sensation in tho
mouth. There is no and in this wash, nor any
ingredients entering into it* composition, but
such as nre highly beneficial to the teeth.
It bay been examined and used hy several of
the first Physicians of this city, who have tta heai
tation in recommending H a* an excellent wash
for the teeth and gum*, preventing the latter from
becoo ing spungy, and, by its detergent and an

Hitman Hair*
fllHE diseases of the hair among it* are those
X which occasion baldness nnd gradual falling
off of the hair, and thinness ofit—the causes of
which arise from mnny disorders, especially fe
vers; perspiration, which extends the pores, re
laxes the roots, causes the hair to fall off. and of
ten occasions total baldness. Baldness hns ever
been esteemed a great defect, ((generally arises
through violent exercise, from whence arise per
spirations, which too frequently occasion n loss
ofthe hair—it relaxes the roots—the ncidity pre
vents the fluid acting on the hnir, which occasions
it to waste. For instance, after a violent perspi
ration the hair becomes dry, it feels extremely
harsh, nnd no elasticity in it whatever; therefore,
to prevent its taking an effect on tho hair, first
n:h the hnirdry with n cloth, then apply the Cns-
sndn Oil to the roots of the hair, so that the skin
of the head uiny bo moistened, aud remain so af

rpilIS worthy remedy earnestly repels the slur
X of being a quack medicine, it having been
the result of many year* study, experience and
labor, in the medical practice aud observation of
Fever and Ague. It is composed of /melt medi
cinal principles at were considered most fit to re
store tho harmony ofnetion between the stomach,
liver, and tho otlior important functions of the
system.ihe loss of which linnnotiy is evidently the
immediate cause of the disease. It speedily’pro-
motes n regular aud healthy appetite which is
generally entirely destroyed or rendered very
precarious; bv which effect, vigor nnd strength is
soon afforded to the whole system. It must be
apparent to all. that d medicine possessing these
peculiar virtues, is useful in n great voriaty of
complaints. By renewing the healthy action of
the digestive organs, it hns proved itself of re
markable benefit in dyspepsia, depraved appetite,
henrt-huru, water brush, flatulency, jaundice,
night sweats, dysentery*, bowel complaints, and
all other affections of similar origin, but it is in
the trentuient of Fevers, and especially in Fever
aud Ague, or Remittent Fever, tiint its powers
have boon principally tested, and with those who
have seen its usefulness, it is pronounced sover
eign to ell remedies heretofore discovered fo
those diseases. It hns also been used as a pro
ventive, by many who were subject to n periodi
cal recurrence of the chills nnd fover, and it has
always warded off the apprehended attack. It
