HKPIBI.ItAIU FLATFORM.
The National Republican party of the United Stair ,
assembled in National Convention, in the city of Chi
cago, on the 29th day of May, 1868, make the following
Declaration of Principles :
Ist. We congratulate the country on the assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policy of Congress, as
evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States
lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, and regard it as the duty ol
the Government to sustain those institutions, and to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
to a state of snatchy.
2d. Tbe guarantee, by Congress, of-equal suffrage to
all loyal men in the South demanded by every con
sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of Justice,
and must be maintained, while the question of seflrage
ha all the loyal States propedy belongs to the people of
those States.
3d. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na
tional crime, and the national honor requires the pay
ment of the public Indebtedness, tn the utmost good
faith, to all creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws
under which it was contracted.
Ith. It is duo to the labor of the nation that taxation
should be equalized and reduced as rapidly as the na
tional faith will permit.
sth. The natloimldebt, contracted, as It has been, for
the preservation of the Union for all lime to come,
should be extended over a fair period for redemption,
and it is the duty of Congress to reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever it can honestly be done.
tith. That the best policy to diminish our bigrlen of
debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek
to loan us money at lower rates of interest than we now
pay, and must continue to pay, so long as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus
pected.
7th. The Government of the United States should be
administered with the strictest economy, and the cor
ruptions which have been so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for radical re
form.
Btl>. We profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic
death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret tbe accession of
Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him and the
cause he was pledged to support ; has usurped high
teaiUntive and judicial functions; has refused to exe
cute the laws; nae u..a niu tdgh office to induce other
officers to ignore and violate the a.,, employed
his executive powers to render insecure the propeny,
peace, liberty and file of the citizen; has abused the
pardoning power: has denounced the National legisla
ture as unconstitutional; has persistently and corruptly
resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper
attempt at the reconstruction of the States lately in re
bellion ; has perverted the public patronage into an
engine of wholesale corruption; and has been justly
impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and
properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of
tliirty flve Senators.
9tb. The doctrine of Great Britain and other European
powers, that beeatisa a man b «uce a subject, he la
always so, must be leaiste.l at every hazard by the
United States, as a relic of tbe feudal time, not author
ized by the law of nations, and at war with our national
honor and independence. Naturalized citizens are enti
tled to be protected in all their rights of citizenship as
though they were natural born, and rtb citizen of the
United States, native or natutalited, must be liable to
arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
done, or words spoken, in this country, and if so arrested
and imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to
interfere m his behalf.
10th. Os all who were faithful in the trials of the late
war, there were mme entitled to more especial honor
than the brave soldiers and seamen, who endured the
hardships of the campaign nnd cruise, and imperilled
their lives in the service of the country. The bounties
'and pensions provided by law for these brave defenders
of the nation are obliagtions never to be forgotten. The
widows and orphans.of the gallant dead are the wards ot
the people, a sacred legacy bequeathed to the nation's
protecting care.
11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past has
added so much to the wealth, development of resources,
and increase of power of this nation, tbe asylum of the
oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encour
aged by a liberal and just policy.
12th. This Convention declares its sympathy with all
the oppressed people which are struggling for their
rights.

MEDICINAL.
Asiatic Cholera in China.
ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN KILLER.
Read the following letter from
Rev. K. Telfurd. Missionary in China, now
visiting hie home in Pennsylvania:
Washington, Pa., Juue25,18(16.
Messrs. Perry Davis & Son, Providence, R. 1..-
Dear Sirs -During a residence of some ten
years as a Missionary in Siam and China, I found
your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy /or that fearful s/onrge, the Cholera.
In administering tlie medicine, I found it most
effectual to give a teaspoonful of Pain Killer in a
gill of hot wr.ter sweetened With sugar; then,
after about fifteen minutes, begin to give a table
spoonful ot the same mixture every minute until
relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Bathe the stomach with Pain
Killer, clear and rub the limbs briskly. Ot those
who had the cholera, and took tbe medicine faith
fully in the way stated above, eight out of ten
recovered. Yours, truly,
11 TELFORD.
If au attack with Diarrhoea, Dysentery, or
Cramp Colic, don't delay the use of the Pain
Killer. Sold by all medicine dealers Price, 25
cents, 50 cents, and SI per bottle.
Manhattan, Kansas, April 17, 1866.
Gentlemen — * • - I want to say a little
more about the Pain Killer. I consider it a very
valuable medicine, and always keep it on hand.
I have travelled a good deal suice 1 have been in
Kansas, and never without taking it with me.
In my practice I used it freely for tbe Asiatic
Cholera, in 1819, and will) better success than any
other medicine ; I also need it liere for cholera in
1855, with the same good result.
Truly, yours, A. HUNTING, M. D.
Swato,‘China.
Cholcia 1 * * * I regret to say that tbe
cholera has prevailed here of late to a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day has beeu re
ported. I should add that the Pain Killer, sent
recently from the Mission House, has been used
with considerable success during this epidemic.
If taken in season is generally effectual in check
ing the disease,
Rrv. CHARLES HAKDINIG.
Shoiapore, India.
[From the Portland Monthly . |
Summer Complaint and Dysentery-
Bowel complaints seem just now to be the
prevailing element, and any medicine that is
everywhere acceptable, and that is reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, beard, and experienced, we believe Davis'
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the beet
method of usingH.we quote from the directions:
“For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonful in a will of new milk and moiawes, in
equal parts, stirred well together, lessen Ute dose
for children, according to the age. If the pain be
severe, bathe the bowels aad back with the medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in eases of
the cholera morbus, sodden stoppages, etc. 'Re
peat tbe dose every hour.
“The quickest way I ever saw Ute dysentery
cured was by taking /me spoonful of the Paiu
Killer in one’ gill of milk nnd molasses stirred
well together and drank bot, at tbe same lime
bathing the bowels freely with medicine Let
the dose be repeated every hour nutil the patient
is relieved.’’
If every person who has reason to fear this
disease would provide themselves with a bottle
of this medicine, and neo as occasion required, we
believe a great amount of ratferiug and sickness
would be saved. je!2—2m
