The National Republican party of the United Stales,
assembled in National Convention, in the city of Chi
cago, on the 20th day nf May, 1868, make the following
Declaration of Principles :
let. We congratulate the country on the assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policy of. Congress, a?
evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States
lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, and regard it as the duty of
the Government to sustain those Institations, and to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
tn a state of anarchy.
2d. The guarantee, byCopgress, of equal suffrage to
all loyal nieu in the South was demanded by every con
sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of justice,
and moat be maintained, while’ the question of suffrage'
In all the loyal States properly belongs to the people of
those States.
3d. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na
tional crime, and the national honor requires the pay
ment of the public indebtedness, in the utmost good
faith, to all creditors, al home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the > spirit of the laws
under which it was contracted.
4th. It Is due to the labor of the nation that taxation
should be equalized and reduced its rapidly ns the na
tional faith will permit.
sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for
the preservation of the Union for all time to. come,
should be extended over a fair period for redemption,
aiyl it is the duty of Congress to reduce the rate of In
terest thereon, whenever it can honestly be done.
6th. That the best-policy to diminish our burden of
debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek
to loan us money atlower rates of interest than we now
pay, and must continue to pay, sa long as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or stis-
pected. >
7th. 'rhe Government of the United States should be
administered with the strictest economy, and the cor
ruptions which have been so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson civil loudty for r idical re
form. - _ ... ,
3th. We profoundly deplore the untimely and tsagic
death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of
Andrew Johnson to the PresMsmcy, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him and the
cause he was pledged to support; lias usurped high
legislative and judicial functions; has refused to exe
cute the laws; has used his high office to induce other
officers to ignore mm notate the laws; has employed
his executive powers to render insecure the property,
peace, liberty and life of the citizen; has abused tKo
pardoning power; has denounced the National Legisla
ture as unconstitutional; lias persistently and corruptly
resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper
attempt aS the reconstruction of the States lately in re
bellion; baa perverted the public jtatrouage into an
engine of wholesale corruption; and has been justly
impeached for high crimes arid misdemeanors, and
properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of
tiiirtr-ave SanafOTS. .
#th. The doctrine of Grtat Britain and other European
powers, that because a man is once a subject, he is
always so, must lie resisted at every * hazard by the
United States, as a relic of the feudal tinie, not author
ized by the law of nations, and at war with our national
honor and independence. Naturalized citizens are enti*
tied to be protected in all their rights of citizenship as
though they Were natural bom, anti no-citizen of the
United States, native' or naturalized, must be liable to
arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
done, or words spoken, in this country, and if so arrested
and imprisoned, it is tire duty es tire Government to
interfere in his behalf.
10th. Os all who were faithful in tlie trials of the late
war, there were none entitled to more especial honor
than, the brave soldiers and seamen, who endured the
hardships of the campaign and cruise, and imperilled
their lives in the service of tho country. The bounties
and pensions provided by law for these brkve defenders
of tire nation are obliagtions never to be forgotten. The
widows and orphans of the gallant dead are the wards of
the people, a sacred legacy bequeathed to the nation s
protecting care.
11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past lias
added so much to the wealth, development of resources,
and increase of power of this nation, tho asylum ol the
oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encour
aged by a liberal and Just policy. .
12th. This Convention declares its sympathy with all
the oppressed people which are struggling for their
rights.

CURED WITH
PAIN KILLER.
.—o —
I ) EAD THE FOLLOWING LETTER FROM
jLLliev.lt. Telford. Missionary in China, now
visitingliisitomo in Pennsylvania:
Washington, Pa., June 25,1866.
Messrs. Perry Davis & Providence,
Dear Sirs -During a residence of some ten
years aan Mtssiougry in Siam and China, I found
vour vegetable Pain Kilter a piost valuable
remedy for that feaafnl scohrge, Idle Cholera.
In administering the medicine, 1 found it most
effectual to give a teaspoonful of Pain Killer in a
gill of hot water sweetened with sugar; then,
after about fifteen mtmttea, begin to give a table
spoonful ot the same.mixture every minute until
relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Bathe tho stomach with Pain
Killer, clear and rub lire limbs briskly. Ol those
whrt had the cholera, and took the medicine ffiith
fully in tlie way stated above, eight out of ten
recovered. Yours, truly,
R TELFORD.
If an attack with lliauhCß.i, Dysentery, or
Cramp Cidiv, don't delay the tise of the Faht
Kilter. NoW by all medkiuo dealers. Price, 25
cents, 50 cents, and ?1 per bottle.
Manhattan, Kansas, April 17,1866.
Gentlemen— « * * 1 want to say a little
more abont tho Pain Killer. J consider it a very
valuable medicine, and always keep it on liana.
I have travelled a good deal since I have been In
Kansas, nttd never without taking it with me.
In my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic
Cholera, in 1819, and with better snccezst.liiin any
other medicine; 1 also used it hero for cholera in
1855, with tiio same good result.
Truly, .yours, ' A HUNTING, AL I).
Swato, China.
Cholera I * * * J regret to euy that tlie
cholera has prevailed here of late to a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day lias been re ’
ported. I should add that lhe Pain Killer, sent
recently front the Mission House, has been used
with considerable success during this epidemic.
If taken in season is generally effectual hi check
ing the disease,
Rkv. CHARLES HARDLMG,
Sholapore. India.
[From the Portland Monthly.]
Summer Complaint and Dysentery-
Bowel complaints seem just now to be the
prevailing element, and any medicine that is
every where acceptable, and that is reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, heard, and experienced, we believe Davis’
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the Iwst
method Musing it, we quote from lhe directions :
“For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonful in a gill of "cw milk and molasses, in
equal pans, stirred welt together; lessen the <lose
for eliiblren. according to the age. Ifthepaiu l>e
severe, liatho lbe bowels and back with tlie medi
cine. This inode of treatment Ugood in cases of
tbe cliohfit morbus, sudden stlojqiagcs, etc. Re
peat t lie <k*ac every bout.
“The quickest "ay I ever saw the dysentery
cured was bv takiug one spoonful of lire Pain
Kilter in one* gill of milk and molasses stirred
well together and drank hot, at the same time
bathing the bowels freely with imiliciue. Tort
the dose lie Yepeafi-d every hour imtil the patient,
is relieved. ’’
If every person who has reason to fear this
disease-would provide themselves with _a bottle
of this medicine, and dee as occasion required, we
believe a great amonnt of sn fieri ng and sickness
would be saved. —' m
