Standard, thus writes of George D. Prentice,
tho world-renowned editor of the Journal;
“He is a homely and ahabby-looking speci
men of humanity; had on a pair of worn
out slippers, a dirty shirt, seedy coat, and
evidently had not washed his faco for seve
ral weeks. But silch is not unfreqnently
tho garb of genius ; an eccentric way that
great men often adopt for being distin
guished from tho masses. I regret that my
curiosity ever sought an introduction to
Goorgo D. Prentice, for, while I cannot but
admire him as a journalist, scholar, poot
and wit, the rememberance of his personal
appearanoo must ever dotract from the sub
limity of his effusions.”
