LARGEST (TTY"ciRIILATION.
WEDNESDAY MORNING July 4,186(1
Young Mowbray Journeying to
. * the Wars.
BT MARY WAI.SINGHAM.
The following is a gem:
Y.iung Mowbray journeying to tho wars
All belted be anil spurred,
From lady's hand received a rose,
And from her lips this word :
“I loan thee to my country’s cause,
For glory, not for doom ;
To be not slain, but stay her foes,
I deck thy knightly plume ;
Komember, caution is not fear—nor rash
ness valor’s test,
If he who fights and dies docs well—who
fights and lives does best.”
Now fierce the tide of battle laves,
And fast the conflict flews;
And high above the fight still waves
The white plume and tho rose;
And gaily through the gathering fray
Our flower crowned warrior, seo
Strikes many a gallant blow this day
For love and Liberty !
While high above' the din still rings, with
strike on foetnan's crest,
Ho! be who fights and dies does woll—who
fights and lives does best!
Ah ! woe is mo! that love’s kind hand,
Love’s self should, hapless, mar!
A marksman viewed the helmet grand,
And marked the blood-red star !
A downward lauce clove helm and crost,
And bathed in crimson tide,
Love’s fatal gift kissed fainting breast,
And murmuring thus ho died :
“Oh, love, lor Fame men strike and live! —
for Freedom heroes fall!
If he who fights and lives gives much—wh
fights and dies, gives all!”
