M/’rtia Killer :
IDkar Sir : I fed it a duty T owe to the
iblic, to make known the value of Perry
kvis’ Pain Killer, and my experience in
ing it for somo of tho complaints for
Ikich it is highly recommended. In April
It, on your recommendation, I purchased
One dollar bottle of you for pains with
lick I have long been afflicted, and made
e of it on my trip down to Now Orleans,
th tie most gratifying and beneficial
eels. On my return to this city, the
lolera made its appearance among some
my passengers. I made use of the Pain
iller. having no other remedy on board,
id, to my surprise and gratification, found
gave immediate relief! On my arrival
St. Louis, I called on you anil got four
rge bottles, and stated to you mv cond
uce in it as an infallible Cholera remedy,
id remarking to you that I wanted no
her Cholera remedy on my boat. X made
e of the four bottles on my trip to New
■leans and back, for Cholera and feme
her complaints for which it is rccotn
snded, and met with the most astonishing
ccess ; when I ordered from you six more
e dollar bottles. Since then I have
ide two moro trips to New Orleans and
ek : and on my previous trip up I had
ire than
SEVENTY CASES OF CHOLERA
i board, when the PAIN KILLER was
[mediately used with the most astonishing
lults. In all cases where it was used in
ne, it gave relief in a very short time ;
and I can, with confidence, say to the pub
1, that in-all the first stages of Cholera,
|en taken in time, it is, in my opinion, an
fallible remedy! and after a fair trial
th it for several weeks, and tor four
bs to New Orleans and back, and using
libr Cholera and other complaints for
Boh it is recommended, no consideration
iatever weuld induce mo to leave port
thout a good supply—believing it. to be a
Idicine that no officer of a boat or any
bily would be without a single day after
fug one bottle; believing it to be the
Ist valuable family medicine known to
> world for all the different complaints
(which it is recommended.
P. S.—Please send me six large bottles
F this trip.

LARGEST CITY CIRH UTIOEL
FBI LAY MORNING July 6, IS«S
SCISSORS.
—M. Theophile Gantier’3 daughter,
Judith, translates from tho Chinese,
writes criticisms on art, and has lately
married M. Catulle Mcndes, a promising
young French poet.
—An awfully curious bore, learning
that a young lady was going to London,
asked “What motive is taking you
thither ?” “I believe they call it a loco
motive, sir,” was the innocent reply.
—Mrs. Tochey was arrested for being
drunk on a tavern door step in Troy.
The landlord appeared in her defence,
and set up that he kept her as a sign to
attract customers, and to show the effi
cacy of his liquors.
—A conductor has been fined SSOO in
Buffalo, N. Y., for ejecting a man from
a car because he refused to give bis seat
to a woman. The Court held tliatladies,
or those wish to be considered such, are
legally entitled to no more privileges in
public conveyances than men.
—A gentleman of strong matrimo
nial inclinations, who has been recently
giving the fair sex an opportunity to say
“yes" or “no,” furnishes the following:
“Oftentimes a girl says ‘no’ to an offer,
when it is as plain as the nose on her
face she means ‘yes.’ The best way to
judge whether she is in earnest or not,
is to look straight into her eyes, and
never mind her nose. ’ — Petersburg Ex
press.
—Vigee, taking the portrait of a lady,
perceived that when he was working at
the month she was twisting her features
in order to render it smaller, and put her
lips into the most violent contractions.
Impatient at such designing artifice, he
at length said to her: “ Don’t hurt
yourself, madam, in trying to make your
mouth smaller, because, if you choose, I
will put none at all.”
—A man from the town of Burns
was in Milwaukee on business, recently,
and called at Mrs. ’s, millinery es
tablishment. The lady proprietor stood
behind the counter as he asked : “Have
you false breasts ?” There was a vehe
ment row under that roof for a minute
or more, till, quailing before a storm of
words, he stammered out: “They are
for my wife—not for me!” An explana
tion soon ensued, and tranquility was
restored.
—The question of female suffrage,
among other vexed and vexing ones
before the English l’arliament, will
come up soon. John Stuart Mill has
presented in the House of Commons a
petition iu favor of the extension of
suffrage to female householders. It was
signed, he showed, by 1150 ladies be
longing to the upper and middle classes,
and all of them gave their addresses.
—A young lady, having purchased an
assortment of music at a music store,
on returning to her carriage recollected
a piece she had neglected to buy.
“Sir,” said she, on re-entering the store,
•‘there is yet one thing which I had for-,
gotten and which I must now request
you to give me.” “And what is that?”
replied the young music-seller. “It is,
sir,‘One Kind Kiss Before we Part.’”
Siie meant the song of that title. The
gay youth, vaulting instantaneously over
the counter, saluted the fair .stranger.
He lost his heart and his situation.
—Richmond papers contain the de
tails of a college commencement, at
which General Fitzhugh Lee was pres
ent. He was received with great enthu
siasm, and spoke as follows : “Ladies
and Gentlemen : There is a small vil
lage in this good old State, known as
Appomattox Court House. At this
place I was most forcibly reminded, on
the 9th day of April, 1860, that I had
nothing further to say. I thank you
most heartily for the honor you have so
kindly conferred upon me.”
—The Lynchburg Republican of
June 29th, says : “There was a consid
erable break at several warehouses yes
terday, but there was fittle really fine
offered. The little really fine brought
$55, SBO and $l7O per hundred pounds.
The lower grades sold at fair prices,
though the bidding was duller than
usual. We are glad to notice the fact
that North Carolina tobacco is begin
ning to come in, and if tho market con
tinues as good as usual there is no doubt
that the best of this product will come
in hereafter as regularly as before the

PATENT MICA ROOFING,
We arc now prepared to supply it in any
quantity, or to apply it to Roofs.
The MICA ROOFING is adapted to build
ings of every description, and can be ap
plied to Steep or Flat Roofs, or over old
Shingle Roofs, without removing the shin
gles. We recommend its use on Factories,
Foundries, Store Houses, Cotton Sheds,
Railroad Depots and upon all buildings
w here steam is used, and a Fire Proof re
quired.
. It costs about one-half the prieo of
Tin.
It is cheap, durable, and is easily and
quickly applied. The upper surface of the
Roofing is protected from the action of the
weather, by its covering of Ground Mica,
which is pressed into the water proof com
position, making a hard surface of stone,
beautiful in appearance, and a sure protec
tion against fire.
We shall also keep on hand a
supply of
INDIA-RUBBER ROOFING PAINT,
which is* the best coating that can be used
for Tin Roofing. Leaky Tin Roofs can be
readily repaired, go as to last many years,
at a trifling cost, which would in many
cases save tho expense of anew Roof.
