Fatal Amusement.—In Pittsburg, on $un-
day morning, 24th ultimo, a girl seven or eight
yearsof ago. died from the effects of over ex
ertion in skipping the rope. On Thursday last
a spirit of emulation arpse between her and
her playmates as to Which could jump the
greater number of times consecutively, and by
extraordinary exertion she was enabled to ac
complish three hundred ami fifty, but her life
has proved the forfeit.
Fatal Rcncontcr at West Paint.—Tiro of
our citizens, Messrs., Lyo s and Kelly, unfor-
tonately met at West Point on Saturday, the
30th ult.. They were both armed ; Lyons with
a pistol, and Kelly with o gun. Mr, Lyons
was shot, the shot entering the thigh just below
the hip-joint and ranging upwards. Drs. Har
rington und Brgdfield of West Point, were
called in immediately, and Drs. Little, of Long
Cane, and Smith of LnGrange, as goon as they
could be cal led .—These gentlemen made every
effort in the power of medical skill to save the
.unfortunate man, but ho could not bo rescued
