The Methodist Episcopal Conference, which
closed its session recently at Alexandria, passed
a unanimous resolution, recommending to oil
the Churches in that Conference, the merits
and objects of’tho “American Colonization
Society,” nnd appointing collections to be
made in them on a Sabbath in July preceding
or succeeding the ferulh day thereof.
This Society once received its chief support
from the Southern Slates, and would continue
to do so but for the unhappy agitation of the
slavery question, by those who huve no direct
concern or interest in the matter.
Minister Expelled.—The Methodist Epis
copal Conference at Philadelphia, sat two days
with closed doors on the case of the Rev. R.
Gnntner, charged with attempting to seduce
one Mrs. Morton, a married lady of Lancaster
County. 'The Rev. gentleman, it appears, had
previously Jbeen tried by a committee of
preachers, who pronounced him guilty, where
upon the Presiding Elder caused his suspen
sion. He appealed and brought the matter
before the Conference, which body has confirm
ed the charge, and disowned all further con
nections with the accused.
Later accounts state that the conference
have reconsidered the vote of expulsion.

We mentioned the other day .that a me?
was about to be held in the Oliver Jreet
tiat Church,’ in this city, to elicit an"WMfate_
from tho denomination respecting CertainpUb-
lished proposals for a new Version of the Holy *
Scriptures. The meeting was held on Th&t-
day evening, the Rev. Dr. Welch presiding,
and the Rev. 8. S. Cutting being chosen Secre
tary.
Tho Rev. E. Turney, chairman.of ithe com
mittee appointed to prepare a reply! to the
pamphlet published in adkgcnqy pf; thb <bsw
version, road the report i^'said committee,
which, with o series of resolutions, was Adopted
by tho mooting. The report Was long and Very
able. Tho resolutions set forth that -tbe eom-
mittee did not impugn or doubt th@ integrity of
those who had originated the movement in
favor of the altered verslbn; that the separa
tion of the Buptist denomination ’ from* the
American Bible Society was not, caused by ■dif
ferences of opinion with reference to the-Beg-
lish version; but solely by questions relaliag W
the translation and uistributihn bf tho Bible jn
foreign languages; find that an‘friends bf'the
American and Foreign Bible Society, tbohe
assembled were resolved to take and maintain
this original position.
The resolutions fbrthcr mnitritlinfed tbit as
consistency with the principles tif translation
for the heathen did not then require a new
English translation, neither docs it nowq^hat
while the presant version of the Sacred Writ
ings is not pet feet, being a human labor, tho
committee deeply regret to see it impugned
in terms df great severity as the starting print
of this oniendatory movement, believing that
these sweeping reproaches are unjust, and cal
culated to endanger tho confidence and in
spect due to the inspired volume; that if obioleto
terms and -ungrammatical phrases are to iHpnjp.
rected, the work should be left tq Eugii^h
Christendom, and not bo alsUmed by a single
denomination; that the substitution of the word
“immerse” for “ baptize” would be useless hs
carrying with it no authority, end perniekidsa*
lending to distrust and endless imputations;
thnt the good faith of the American and Fo
reign Bible Society is pledged to adht-rence'io
the present version^ and that the society be in
