t^Byan unaccountable blunder of the person
ho made up our form on Monday night, the follow-
ig circular was divided, and placed in different parts
our paper. We deem it of so great interest to our
laming friends that we republish -it in it* proper
rm this morning. The circular speaks director to
e point, on a matter materially affecting the cotton
iterests of the State, and the source from which ii
inanates entitles it to the consideration of those to
liom it is addressed.
TO PLANTERS.
Savannah, April, 1850.
Tlio attention of the Chamber of Commerce hav-
n been called to tiie condition of tiie Rope and Buz-
:uig, as well as to the form of packages in which
otton is received at this port, u committee wua ap-
lointcd to prepare tlio following suggestions:
As tiie price which the buyers ol cotton are era-
powered to pBy for the article, must depend upon its
lost of delivery at the consuming markets- and as
hat cost must depend upon the rate of freight, order,
oss in weight, &c., it is important that cotton should
V pocked so as to go forward at the cheapest possi-
ilc freight, and be landed in a sound condition. Now
learly all the cotton is compressed before shipment,
ucl as the more weight o ship can carry, the lower
he freight, tiie planter derives the full benefit of the
eduction. Uniformity of package and strength of
ope and bagging, are great requisites in its beiug re-
luccd to tiie smallest possible compass. Jute rope is
ilmopt useless to put uu tile bags again after pressing,
ind the buyer or shipper of tiie cotton must puy ex-
ra for new ropes. Thin bagging burets under pr-'S-
iure, and in such cnees tiie bales must be covered
mew. End-packed boles will uot bear compressing,
h the cotton is forced out ut the ends, and the pack-
ige is not compressed but only clongnted.
The consequence is, that bales in light bagging, or
hound with Jute, Grass or Burk rope, or end-packed,
ure likelv to be rejected or passed over by the buyer,
particularly in a dull and declining market, or taken
only at a disproportionate reduction in price, as a
compensation for the expense and trouble of them.
For these reasons it is manifestly for tiie interest of
planters to use only heavy bugging and stroughcnipen
rope, and a screw or lever press with a box about 5tt
4 itichea long, and about;20 inches wide, and to put on
not less than five bands, though six would be prefer
able, These suggestions are tiie result of experience
and observation, and are respectfully oifered ns inti
mately connected with the true interests of the plan
ter, and calculated to do what all should be huppy
and proud to accomplish, viz; to raise the standard
el character of Georgia cotton, in whatsoever market
it may show itself, it is a tit occasion to concratu-
late and compliment our plauting friends on what
they have accomplished, in an almost incredibly short
nine, in chunking their packing from round to square
nalcs, improving the quality of their cotton, aud al
most entirely doing away the reproach, so often made
against round hales, of being fuisely pocked.

Since our last there has been very little doing iu

tions.
AUGUSTA, April 30.
Yesterday there was some demand, and the sales
0> the day were about 300 bales. Holders are not wil-
'mg to sell freely ut t j, e rHte c f jo cents for middling
tsir, which is the price that sales were made yesler-
aav. The accounts of the Canada, now past due, (as
W sailed from Liverpool on the 13th intt. ) are look-
-o tor with much anxiety.
